Dropping the ball over and over..George Bush

Well once again George Bush drops the ball in eastern Europe. I seem to remember some folks saying our military wasn't overstretched by going into Iraq. Yet our military intelligence did not have the resources needed to see ther Russians heading into Georgia, even though they had been gathering near the border for weeks. I am sure that whole single C-130 of humanitarian supplies will go a long ways towards making folks in Georgia feel a whole lot better. Maybe it is even filled with leftover formaldehyde drenched mobile homes from Hurrican Katrina for the people now homeless there to stay in. Oh wait. Scratch that, New Orleans still has not been rebuilt yet and those are still being used by people. Well, at least we can just go into debt a little bit more to buy more of those. What's another few billion dollars of debt now?

Re: Dropping the ball over and over..George Bush

I'm all about the Bush-bashing. But in this instance I'm not really sure America could've done a lot to stop the invasion, even if we weren't in Iraq. Russia is becoming a petro-dictatorship with grand designs on expanding and securing delivery. They'd be that way if Bush weren't the president.

If Bush were even a mediocre president, this would probably be one of those "crap happens" footnotes on his presidency. As it is, it's yet another eyesore on 8 years of failure to produce anything more noteworthy than some tax cuts.

Fixed it for you, so as not to give the false impression that Bush helped regular Americans in any way.

I got kind of sunburned earlier this month when I was visiting Hawaii. And I cut myself on a coral reef.

Damn George Bush straight to hell!

Re: Dropping the ball over and over..George Bush

The invasion of Georgia is not Russia's fault. The Georgian president, an American ally, gets most of the blame.

Georgia hoped for a quick blitzkreig while the world's attention was fixed on the Beijing Olympics. Despite agreeing to an earlier ceasefire, at 3 am the Georgian military launched a massive, indiscriminate artillery and rocket barrage against the city of Tskhinvalli and then sent in their assault forces backed by heavy armor. The result was mass carnage and 1000 dead, mostly civilians.

The Russian response was measured. Compare it to Bush's response to 9/11 in which fewer than 3000 dead resulted in the occupations of 2 nations, causing a million deaths and 4 million refugees.

But, but . . . I thought the U.S. was supposed to keep its nose out of other countries' business. I thought we did too much meddling, and Bush was an overeager invader and war-monger. Does this mean we should be spying on Russia and getting involved in that part of the world?? All this Bush-bashing has my head spinning. First he's evil for interfering in the Middle East, now he's evil for NOT interfering in Georgia. He's guilty of bullying the world, and yet he's supposed to jump in and bully Russia??? You guys let me know when you get your story straight, okay?

Bullies don't pick on those who can kick their *** (Russia, N. Korea, China).

They pick on weaklings who have no friends or nukes to back them up (Iraq, Iraq, Granada...)

Right. That's why we picked on Hitler, because you know, he couldn't kick our butt or anybody else's in Europe. He was such a weakling, it was really pathetic.

Is that supposed to be two different countries--Iraq and Iraq?

And just so you know, The Soviet Union, which was a superpower at the time, spent 10 years in Afghanistan trying to defeat that country and still failed. We went into Afghanistan and routed their forces in less than 3 weeks.

But then I'm sure you'll have some assbackwards explanation for all of the above, since you demonstrated a long time ago how much you hate the United States.

He said that as a bully, Bush was unafraid to fight smaller countries (Iraq and Afghanistan), but is afraid to take on big guys (Russia). You replied nonsensically that the unborn Bush was unafraid to take on Hitler in WWII.

The Soviets, after a quick overthrow of Afghanistan, spent years fighting CIA-backed foreigners (like bin Laden). The Americans, after a quick overthrow of Afghanistan, have spent years fighting--the natives, who have no outside source of weapons. You can say that some Pakistanis help secretly with free rifles, but this is far from the organized assistance that the US provided against the Soviets. Without that foreign help, the Soviets would have easily held the country, which the Americans cannot do. It's sliding back to the Taliban.

Where Bush made a mistake was not condemning the actions of the Georgian government.

One of the "weaklings" he said we have picked on is Granada. Did Bush pick on Granada? No. Therefore he is obviously talking about U.S. "aggression" historically, going back through time. Hence my remark about Hitler.

Ah, yes, those cuddly, lovable "natives," otherwise known as the Taliban.

Good grief, get off the Hilter garbage. Why is it that people keep bringing this up? You realize that there were other counties fighting Hitler before we showed up to the party, right? WE didn't defeat Hitler. We just tell the rest of the world that we did. If you pay attention to the history of WWII as told by British Textbooks compared to US Textbooks, they show different start dates of WWII. Why? Because we think the War started when we got involved.

The US is like the bandwagon fan of WWII, we let everyone play the regular season and ignored it, then bought playoff tickets for the championship and claimed to be the real fans.
