The world according to Ed O
Nice work Ed O.
Usenet mock draft
This actually seems like a decent mock so far. We'll see how the second half of the first round goes.

I've been slammed with cross-country traveling and making up for it at work, but I had enough time to make Hap happy

Ed -
Shame on you for passing on Kirk Snyder, who IMO is the better prospect. You fell for tremendous amount of Oregon bias & hype surrounding Luke.
I think Luke will struggle to score against athletic SG (and really struggle against athletic SF), and will definitely struggle on the defensive end as well. He'll give great effort, he always does and is a smart bball player, but that isn't enough. He will be a mediocre NBA player IMO. I think better choices were on the board.
Thankfully, (and IMO) Nash won't make the same mistake.

Yo Ed:
Did you write a report? The only one I see posted is for Chicago. If it's just them being slow to post it, why don't you post it here, too?

I got back into town last night just before midnight and was greeted with several hundred work-related emails. I made the mistake of reading them before (trying) to go to sleep and a bit before 2:00 AM I sent in my pick.
So I've got a built-in excuse if the pick flops. I have NOT written my report yet. I hope to get to it tonight.
As far as why Jackson: I think he was the best player left.
He can shoot, and he'll be able to help there without question. He's measured well, worked out well, and when you add in his excellent production in college I just think he was a solid pick.
I simply wasn't exited by any of the remaining players that are going to stay in. Andriuskiviskius and Splitter are probably going to withdraw.
Snyder? I'm just not that excited about him. If I had to guess as to who Portland would pick, I'd bet on Snyder, but I don't think drafting a 2 that can't shoot very well is a good idea.
Monya was another guy I considered... but he's not a good enough prospect to make me want to pick him over a known quantity like Jackson.
#23 should be interesting...

ed, we aren't supposed to agree. And your assessment of Luke and Snyder (even with you thinking that the Blazers will take Snyder) is almost spot on from what I think.
Of course, I think they won't take Luke because Luke might be gone by 13 anyway.

Hehe. They didn't mention me by name, though. That's a guaranteed way to drive readership (perhaps drive it away, though ).

It's not posted yet, and I haven't sent my report in (too ... much ... to do at ... work) but I wanted to give an sneak peek at Portland's #23 pick on the usenet mock draft:
Sebastian Telfair.
My decision came down to Telfair, JR Smith, or Robert Swift.
If I had gone big at #13, I would have taken Smith. Since I took Luke Jackson, I went with Bassy. Swift was considered because I think that he's going to be pretty decent, but Telfair's a potential star and at #23 I think it was a risk worth taking.
If Portland ended up with Telfair at #23 in the real draft, I'd be psyched. Unless Harris somehow slips to #13, of course, then we should look in another direction at #23 than PG.
