My view on how to best build a team has been the same for a while now... certainly a long time before last Tuesday.

Every now and then you hear someone complaining about how today's players can't shoot. The main reason for this (IMO) is because it's getting harder and harder to even get a good shot off. With the increasing size and athletism of players at all positions, and the court dimensions staying the same, defenses can effectively take up space like never before. A team with multiple shotblockers and long athletic wings can cut down angles and deny opprotunities leaving offenses to settle for low percentage shots like long jumpers off the dribble. Portland already has two of those types of guys in Miles and Ratliff, I'd like to add more.

I've been for building the team around those sort of space eaters since before Drexler made Paxson expendable. But there is room enough in my view of hoops to include Zach... I'd like to have him on the team getting 30 minutes working the boards and getting high percentage putbacks. I just don't want to see him as THE featured player that the team ties it's future to. He is effective IMO, but I think lack of D is why his +/- rated him as the 110th best player in the league. Also I don't see the Magic as likely to trade with Portland as the Blazers don't have the sorts of players available that they'd be likely to want, and like I said before, EO is probably going #1.

Good idea! Let's get Rasheed Wallace. Oh wait, we had him and everyone complained. Oh well.

Go Blazers?

Sheed didn't even play that great. He had one game, big deal. He doesn't fit into our system anymore. He is content with being a glorified role player. Theo is better then him anyways, plus whatever we get for Reffer is the cherry on top. I still like Sheed, but trading him was for the better, get over it.

Please MAS. It's a TEAM game. Sheed had one big game, Ben had one big game, Rip had one big game. They took turns being The Man, but the TRUTH is Sheed had a good game in EVERY GAME of the NBA Finals. DOn't just look at stats. He helped anchor their D. He communicated on D and got them all talking. He made GREAT passes. He hit the first shot of the series. He hit timely shots in every game. And his teammates loved him. And they ALL say that they couldn't have won it without him. And he is MUCH more than a role player. Role players don't lead their team in 4 categories in a game as big as Game 4 was. Sheed's guarantee worked. Kobe's didn't.

SHeed is the #1 reason the Pistons won the championship and they ALL said so- Billups, Rip, Ben, Larry, Herb.

If you wanna be like the Pistons, then you want SHEED.

Pistons 34-23 without Sheed

Pistons 36-12 with Sheed.

You take Sheed, and I'll take Theo/whatever we get for Rahim, your Sheed woulda prolly left us anyways. Theo is a better center for us then Sheed is sorry.
