Overall, you can't say that a short PG is a major liability. I mean, the Blazers nearly made the NBA finals twice if it weren't for last minute heroics by SA and LAL. Both times they would have been led by the short Damon (thus showing you can win with a smaller PG).
I don't see how you can call the Spurs beating the Blazers "last minute heroics" seeing as they swept you and the last two victories were blowouts.

Anyway, drafting Telfair at #13 seems like a serious reach to me, but it was also seen as a reach when the Wolves drafted Kevin Garnett at #5. The point being that if you draft a high school player in the lottery, even if you reach for him, he has the potential to make you look like a genius a couple of years down the road.

Within reason, I don't think you should worry about whether you are reaching, you should take the guy you like best and call it a day. If the Blazers want Telfair that badly then they should just pick him at #13 and not risk losing him.

I would not draft him there, but they seem to think very highly of him.
