Thanks for all the stuff, Hype #9!
Thought this was a pretty interesting/revealing article from the past.....
Heh, he's so....so non-Rasheed.
Quote:
.....Despite the hubbub, Telfair appears to have remained fairly grounded. He's savvy with the press, knowing how to give the media what they want while manipulating situations to benefit his blossoming image. He looks reporters in the eye and answers audibly in thought out, complete sentences - a rarity for today's younger superstar ballers.
"Players are scared to give real answers 'cause so many people will write bad things about you," Telfair says. "They are going to write bad things about you regardless, so you might as well speak your mind.".....

You know what they say "The NY media has created this hype" blah blah blah..... Here is one of the best , if not best HS talent evaluaters on Telfair:

Bob Gibbons, whose All Star Sports report has been a staple for college coaches since 1977, said: "He is every bit as good as Marbury. Sebastian wants to be a star attraction, and with time he'll mature into that."

Nobody's denying he's a great PREP player - so was Felipe Lopez.

Anyone know how close a relationship him and his cousin have? Both went to Lincoln High School in Brooklyn.
If Marbury has been working with him for any frequency over time he'd likely have an edge over any prep pg's, most college pg's and some NBA pg's too.
Felipe Lopez have any NBA all star cousins and assist leaders?
Marbury led the NBA in assists last year. Our man ST is known for his passing. Not hard to see a correlation.
Oh and Marbury is only 6'2". ST could grow 2 more.

Marbury worked with all of his brothers too - didn't do them much good.

For all I know. But then, LeBron James almost certainly didn't. Your point?

Maybe if you want to see it. Ever heard of Harvey and Horace Grant? Twin brothers? Totally different games?
I HOPE Telfair isn't going to model his game after Marbury, who is a notoriously selfish player and a locker-room cancer.

Yeah - maybe we've got our centre of the future!

Oh did you compare him to LeBron James? Didn't see that. I thought you did compare him to Lopez. That's my point.
What's your agenda? Just to spout **** about the Blazers picks? For all ANYONE knows he could be a better pick than Lebron James but you chose Lopez's instead. Why?

How notoriously selfish can someone be while averaging 9 assists per game and leading the league? Just slightly less notoriously selfish than anyone else?

Actually, Target, you're pretty point-less.
I THOUGHT you were suggesting that because he has a cousin who is a well-paid NBA point guard, that this meant something about his game. My point was that having successful relatives doesn't mean you will be successful, and conversely, you don't need to have 'em to BE successful. So, basically, they're irrelevant.

I prefer to think of it as a Mission from God.

I don't think even Telfair's own mother would make that claim. Tell you what, if he DOES turn out to be better than LeBron James, I will eat my laptop.

Lopez's what?

Sigh. The old assists=unselfish trope. I don't think I have the energy to take that one on AGAIN. Suffice to say, there are assists and there are assists. If you hang on to the ball until the last second then give it up to a good shooter who hits a shot, you get an assist. Were you unselfish? No. An unselfish player would've given it up sooner, and might make the pass that LEADS to the assist and not get an assist. Ball hogs often can rack up the assists. Marbury is a ball hog and a luh-OO-zer.

It's kinda funny you're rippin on Telfair, a player who've you probably only seen play once or twice in a game (if that) I trust Warentien's eye for talent.

I'll try to post a video with some Bassy highlights. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the video in this thread, but I'll give it a shot.
(video waiting approval from mods)

I'll let you in on a secret - I've NEVER seen him play.
Not even once.
But I could say that about every single draftee (I'm not a big follower of the College game).
But even if I HAD seen him play, it would only have been against other high-schoolers, and what does that prove? It proves he's good at the high school level. But if that proved he was good at the NBA level, then there'd never be a draft bust, would there?

If only it were that simple. He does seem to have a good nose for talent BUT:
For one thing, Warkentien (sp.?) doesn't scout every player himself. He has a team of scouts.
For another, scouts can't make certain predictions about how high school talent will translate.
For a third point, a whole bunch of scouts have come out and said Telfair will basically suck.
Finally, I haven't heard Warkentien say thing one about Telfair. All I've heard is Nash and Cheeks, so for all we know they overrode W's objections to Telfair.
Hey, if Telfair turns out to be John Stockton crossed with Allan Iverson, he could end up my favourite player ever. But the history of (a) skinny little runts, and (b) hyped NY City Bballers is not good. The ones who have succeeded are Kenny Anderson and Marbury, and I hate both of their games (and Marbury's a tank next to Telfair, and weighed a good deal more than him at the same age).
