OT: Barry offered $20mil/3 by some team?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1833036

Now, that's a little steep.

It also mentions that Ray Allen and Rad for Paul Pierce is unlikely... Maybe they'll have to trade with us... wishful thinking.

If my calcs are not far off, three years of $6 mil, $6.6 mil and $7.2 mil are not really that far off, if the MLE = $5.1 mil that is

Maybe Portland had a smoke screen and made him an offer after all?

but I bet many teams wanted him

Wow... is that $20m over 3 years above the MLE? Or is it right at it?

That DOES seem steep. More power to Brent if he can get it...

The thing is, it totally might be the Blazers, offering a max MLE deal over 3 years. If we can avoid adding a 4th year, he'd be a nice addition.

Zo signed a max MLE 4 year deal and it came out to 22 million. I think that is a team willing to use cap.

I hope it's Portland, but I doubt it's Portland.

What is it people don't like about Brent Barry? He's a little injury prone lately, but everytime I watch him I wish he was on our team. I don't understand why people are concerned with whether we offer a guy 15 million or 20 million over 3 years, anyway. It's not like we have to pay these guys!! Even if we go over the Cap and into luxary tax--again, it doesn't come out of our pockets. I never worry about salary cap being a Blazer fan because 1) it's Paul Allens money--and he has LOTS more!! 2) Even if we get mucho cap space I can't see a Kobe, KG, Duncan or any top tier NBA guy signing as a free agent in Portland. It never happens. The NBA wants it's biggest stars in its biggest markets. So, why get upset if we offer BB 20 mill/3 yrs. It is probably as good a FA as we can get.

It's probably the Houston Rockets or the Denver Nuggets that are offering Barry $20 million over 3 years.

If that's Portland, it's a great move for Brent at 3 years.

my guess
Rockets

it would be impossible for other teams to double team T-Mac and Yao. Barry is top 2 long range shooter.
Down Town Brent Barry!

Brent Barry is a good player. I rember when he won the Slam Dunk contest by dunking from the free throw line!

Barry is a team player he averaged about 6 assists a game last year, shot 50 % FG, 45 % 3pt, avg 11 pts!

Stoudamire, Barry, Miles, Randolph, and Ratliff would be a big improvement.

Even after next season, assuming Barry's still playing at a
high-enough level, the team could move him over to replace Stoudamire at the point. Maybe Woods or Monya, or heck, even Outlaw would be ready for the SG helm. Or, Telfair proves everyone wrong and competes well enough to man the PG spot.

The cool thing about this is then Portland doesn't have to focus on finding that star guard, and instead look at a frontcourt upgrade or future frontcourt star.

I wonder if ...

* Ainge would consider moving SAR for Jefferson.

* Paxson would move Chandler for SAR or Curry for Randolph.

* Mullin would like SAR for Biedrins and an expiring contract like Robinson?

* Carter would pipe down if a vet was brought in like SAR, who IMO is right now leaps and bounds better than Bosh.

* Washington would move Kwame Brown for Randolph

I'm not saying I'd make all of these moves. It's just fun thinking about all of the different options out there.

A future of ...

1) Jefferson, Randolph, Miles (or Outlaw), Monya (or Woods), Telfair

2) Chandler, Randolph, Miles (or Outlaw), Monya (or Woods), Telfair

3) Curry, SAR, Miles (or Outlaw), Monya (or Woods), Telfair

4) Biedrins, Randolph, Miles (or Outlaw), Monya (or Woods), Telfair

5) Randolph, Bosh, Miles (or Outlaw), Monya (or Woods), Telfair

6) Brown, SAR, Miles (or Outlaw), Monya (or Woods), Telfair

All of these line ups show Portland has the options available to them to have a bright future. The cool thing is we still have assets in ...

* Monya or Woods to deal

*Outlaw, Khyrapa, or Miles to deal

* Expiring contracts of Ratliff, Davis, and Stoudamire

* Soon Anderson and Patterson's contract and talents will become attractive to a team

* Ha or Sinanovic are still out there

* Chico's still out there scouting for more rough gems

Anyway, to say I'm excited about Portland's future is an understatement.
