The Trailblazers.
I thought I might try something a bit different today. I know this will be hard to read, so bare with me. This thread is about our basketball team. Nothing else, just our team. I was just sitting here thinking about Portland in general and decided to start a thread stating how happy I am that we have a team to talk about. portland should by all means have more than just 1 team, but alas we don't. We do have our Trailblazers though, so here is my thought. I think it might be fun to hear everyone's favorite story about the Blazer team. What is your favorite Blazer team moment. Not so much individual player moments, but the team as a whole.
Mine is this.
Several years ago the Trailblazers used to put on an exhibition game and dunk competition at then Civic Stadium. It was a blast. Outdoor basketball was really fun. I remember players dunking as high as 11'. I think it was called "slam and jam". Then there would be music afterwards. Very fun and afordable for the entire famliy.
These moments to me outweigh the fun and excitement of actual games, but they may not for you. Let's here your story.

Two years ago the Blazers played a perfect quarter against Dallas right before halftime. They crushed Dallas, steal after steal, big bucket after big bucket. The score was like a final score at halftime.
However the best game I ever saw was sadly a loss but one of the best basketball games I've seen. Last game of the year I was in Portland and saw the Blazers go to three OT's with the Lakers and MAN was that a game! Kobe came up huge but no one left unsatisfied. Our boys couldn't have played better except from the flipping free throw line.

I have too many memories and this one is NOT my favorite just one of them. It was in 2K Game 6 vs the Lakers, and we just absolutely jumped on them and owned them, same with Game 6 vs Dallas.

When the blazers had that huge 22 game winning streak in like 92 or whenever. That was pretty sweet.
My memories so bad its just kind of a fuzzy memory, but what I can remember makes me think it was really cool.

Re: Re: The Trailblazers.
Actually no gambitnut it's not. This is an event that for some reason.....financial I'm sure.....the team doesn't hold any more. It was called slam-n-jam I'm sure, and it was at Civic Stadium in the summer time. It was usually a rookie and voluntary veteran game. There were even former players like Maurice Lucas that would show up. Then there would be a "celebrity" slam dunk competition. Former player Billy Ray Bates and Then Current player Clyde Drexler had a dunk off. Clyde won by dunking on an 11' basket. Then live musin and fun down on the field. Very fun time, and I'm sad they don't do it anymore. I'll try to find a link.

Unfortunately, many, many of my clearest Blazer memories are of bitter defeats. The top two would be...
#1 - the Blazers are leading Game Two of the Western Conference Finals against a heavily favored San Antonio Spurs' team featuring the Twin Towers of David Robinson and Tim Duncan. The Blazers are leading going into the final possession and only need a stop to win the game and go back to Portland with the series even at 1-1. But instead, Avery Johnson is able to break down Greg Anthony's defense, he pitches out to Sean Elliott in the corner... Stacey Augmon comes within a fingernail of stealing the pass but instead sails into the front row. Rasheed Wallace looms large in front of Elliott... later Elliott says he couldn't remember seeing the basket. With his heels hovering over the sideline, Elliott puts up a perfect shot over Sheed's outstretched hand to pull ahead for good. The Spurs never looked back and won the series 4-0.
#2 - Another pivotal Game Two in a Western Conference Series. This time, it was the fabled 2000 WCF (hard to believe it was just a year later) against the LA Lakers, when Rasheed Wallace got tossed for "glaring" at Ron Garretson. At that point, it looked as though the Blazers could lose in five games. Some credit is due the team for pulling out a few tough wins before falling apart in Game Seven. Had it not been for the ejection, the Blazers might not have needed the seventh game.

Good Thread!!
My favorite team memory of course is the June 5, 1977 Championship moment. Watching that game and having a lump in my throat and stomach all game was incredible.
Winning was the ultimate satisfaction too because we had a relatively young team and a bright future ahead of us. Oh, how quickly that all changed after going 50-10 the next half season.
My second favorite memory is from about 1990 a regular season game against San Antonio. We played an absolutely flawless first quarter of basketball. We led by something like 48-18. Great Memories.

Terrible, that Dallas game was AWESOME. I think it was March 14th, 2002.
Draco- I believe our longest winning streak ever was 16 near the end of the 1990-91 season. We won 16 in a row and then lost our last game to Phoenix to finish 63-19. We then lost to the Lakers in 6 games in the WCF. Boy, that sucked. That is NOT my favorite memory.
I can't pinpoint any one memory. Hmmmm... oh, YEAH I can. I guess it would have to be when I went to Game 2 of the 2000 WCFs at the Staples Center, sat in the 8th row across from the Lakers bench in full Blazer warmup gear and celebrated the entire second half as we DEMOLISHED the Lakers. The camera crews kept coming over to me to cue me to put on a show for them coming out of each commercial break. I wouldn't yell (I had to rest my voice; I was in a show at the time), but I would pump my arms in the air. Other Laker fans got so annoyed that they would throw ice and food at me but MISS me and hit their fellow Laker fans. I almost got thrown out, just for BEING there, which was funny since Sheed was thrown out of Game 1 for staring at a ref.
There are so many other great memories. I remember listening to games on the radio a lot in the early 90s, esp that one in which we led 49-18 after one qtr against the Spurs. That was amazing.
I MISSED the quadruple overtime game that we I believe we lost against the Suns in the mid 90s (Sabonis hit a big three and Rider called it the greatest game he had ever been a part of.) That game qualifies as the greatest Blazer game I never saw. Ugh!
That game where Sheed hit the game winner at Golden State and then there was a big brawl. That was fun. Bonzi had a good game.
Oh.... the DOUBLE OVERTIME game vs the Lakers when everyone threw the Bill Walton dolls on the floor. That was a CLASSIC.
The three straight wins vs the Mavs in 2003 was just AWESOME and dangit, when Sheed hit that go ahead three late in Game 7, I really believed we were gonna win the game and make history.
Both game winners that Damon Stoudamire has hit in Milwaukee are classics.
Our home win over Indiana last season was unbelievable. Last year actually had a lot of really exciting games, considering we didn't make the playoffs.
Go Blazers

One of my favorite moments was when we were playing against Utah (1999 palyoff's?) and things were getting rough. Malone had elbowed Grant in the face earlier, and was throwing cheap shots left and right.
He threw another cheap shot at Wells, who was having his first real year of pt. Wells went nose to nose and stuck his finger in Malone's face. A sign of a team that wanted to win badly.
I always get a chuckle when I remember that young player getting in the face of a HOF'er who was twice the size.
Unfortunately, that's one of the few good memories of Wells that I have.

Oh my gosh, Terrible. I just read the rest of your post about the last game of this past season. It's funny that I didn't even notice when I first read your post because...... I BLOCKED THAT GAME OUT. I had forgotten it until you brought it up. That was just silly and ridiculous. It was fun though cuz it meant nothing to us. We just played for the love of game and Outlaw had a nasty putback dunk, so I guess that was a pretty great game.
