Watching Sabonis Play...

Here I sit....paying bills...watching Arvydas Sabonis in action on NBATV....

Dude looks slow, tired....dare I say a faint glimmer of his former basketball self as he plays for Zalgiris.

Father Time had definitely caught up with this man - at least as it pertains to professional basketball.

Glad Nash isn't pursuing him - umless it relates to some type of asst. coaching/interpretor role.

Which game was it??? Was it one that he played while he had the flu? He spent 2 weeks in bed after one of those games.

Macabbi Tel Aviv.

CFFI, I knew - if anyone - you would respond. Of course, my posts are with the utmost respect of your love for this man.

Uh, ohh.. Sabonis might be getting his second wind! he "suddenly" has 14 points!

I'm not sure which Macc-Zalg game you are watching. They played each other 4 times....2 in regular season and 2 in Top 16. Macc is a really good team and Sarunas Jasikevicius is arguably the 2nd best Lithuanian in the game right now (some would say THE best ).

In the four meetings of Zalgiris against the eventual Euroleague champs, Sabonis scored 14 or more in only two games.....so I am narrowing it down to which game you are watching.

One of those games, Sabonis pulled down 17 rebounds but only scored 18 points. In the last meeting of the two teams to qualify for the Final 4, Sabonis scored 29 points. I hope that is the one you are watching, even though it is a heartbreaker for Zalgiris.

Dude IS slow AND old... and still one of the most skilled passers at any height in the world. And still 7'3" and around 300lbs.

Sabonis is the kind of player who could produce at age 50. He couldn't jump over a phone book in his entire career as a Blazer, but he makes everyone around him better, and still vacuums up rebounds (often one-handed).

Well that makes one of you.

You know what I wish? I wish we could let Zalgiris have Ha and Nedzad (and maybe even the two Ruskies) on loan for a couple of years, if we could have Sabonis. We could even cut a deal whereby he only has to play home games until the playoffs. The only downside would be that Sabonis couldn't tutor the young centres. As owner of Zalgiris, Sabas ought to see the worth in that...

If I could choose one player to come here and the two choices were Shaq or Sabas,it would be Sabas in a heartbeat.
