OT: KMart to Denver in sign and trade
Link
The Nets will sign him to the Max deal of 7 years $90 million and trade him to Denver for 3 future 1st round picks. The deal will be done by thursday and no other players are involved in the deal. KMart for picks?!
I just hope we dont' trade Rahim for Kittles/Williams And you know when this deal goes down the Por/NJ rumors will heat up in a fast way

Agree completely. I posted already on the Denver forum, but basically I think the contract alone is too much to give Martin. Throw in three first rounders, regardless of where in the first round they wind up, and Denver loses out hard on this one. No doubt Martin will make them better, but not that much better.

Jeez, what does Kenyon Martin have to do to get a little respect? The guy is probably THE BEST defensive forward in the game, has outrageous athleticism and is a total team player. The PERFECT player to put alongside Carmelo Anthony. Denver KILLS with this deal. Three draft picks? They could turn into busts. Denver doesn't NEED draft picks any more now: it has a KILLER front line, an underrated pass-first PG (backed up by everybody's favourite, Earl Boykins) and made the playoffs with Voshon Lenard at 2G... They've got Lenard for another year, then they can use their mid-level to get a Brent Barry next year. They're set!

Play at a high level of basketball.
He's done nothing to truly show he is worth the max.

I'll give you athleticism. I'd give you heart nad hustle. But, I won't give BEST defensive forward or team player.
Ben Wallace (who plays C & PF depending on the team), O'Neal, Rasheed Wallace, Ron Artest are all on par or better then Martin defensively ... worse yet ... the majority of them are better offensively.
Martin is a HORRID offensive player.

That might be true ...
other then putting a mirror on court so Carmelo could get off to himself ... that's the next best thing.
Play.

Denver added a PF to their lineup for only picks. You did not loose any depth on the team at all to get him.
Regardless of what you personally feel about Martin he is an all star.
Kiki did well with this acquisistion. I stand by my comment. You can not just go out an add an all-star easioy. Just ask Nash our GM?
especially for draft picks
A front line of Carmello, Kenyon and Nene/marcus will be a very good one to compete against. Utah's Kirelenko, Boozer, Okur will be good too

So was Reef - and he EARNED his spot.
The Blazers keep this all-star glued to the bench.
Goes to show how much it matters.
Play.

I guess I don't understand why Denver felt that they had to do a S&T...
Why not sign the offer sheet, they NJ didn't want to pay Kenyon 80M over 6 years. Then they could have kept the picks to use or trade for someone else.
Am I missing something?

If Denver doesn't do a S&T, they tie up all their cap room for 15 days while waiting for Jersey to match.
If the Nets do match, they've just missed out on two weeks of bidding for free agents.
This way, they know exactly where they stand. No threat of Jersey matching the contract. No need to speculate about "what FA's did we miss out on that we could have bid on".
Finally, it was rumored that Denver would have had to exercise a buyout option for Voshon Lenard in order to make the offer that was rumored yesterday. With this S&T deal, they can give Martin the extra year and a little less money in 2004-05, thus saving themselves having to cut Lenard.
