I don't agree that it'd be a terrible trade. Miles might be a better player than Johnson, though I'm not convinced of that. I am convinced that Johnson brings something this team needs badly -- shooting. On the other hand, then there'd really be a crowded backcourt if, in fact, Hassell becomes a Blazer.

We'll probably be in the same, if not worse position with Johnson next year as we are with Miles this year. The guy is going to want some serious cash. The only thing to our advantage is there are tons of quality FA's next year, which should deminish everyones value a bit.

Johnson is not a good shooter. 43% from the field including 30% from 3-pt land.

Small for a Big. Phoenix is a bit thin up front and the deal with Denver has been mentioned in the Denver Post. I just threw in Miles because he is a lock to walk after the season. Johnson can play multipule positions and unlike Miles has a jumpshot, he shoots better than Anderson by a long shot, heck Shaq has a .584 so does that mean he has a better jump shot, but I agree with tlong on his outside the arch shooting isn't that good and isn't that what Van Exel is suppose to do?

Me too... by a long shot, and I'm not much of a Johnson fan.
Darius is 2 inches taller and about 4 months younger, but Joe's superior to Miles in almost every respect on the floor. From shooting to ballhandling to defending, Johnson's just a better player.
The Suns have repeatedly said they love Johnson and I doubt that they'd move him since he's still on his rookie deal. I see Marion as being MUCH more available since his contract is so massive.

Looks like Cimalee had issues with the internet connection.
[I'm coaching soccer next Monday so won't be listening to Monday night shows unless I find a 120 min. tape for at least till November]
Trenton Hassell
- Rice - says Hassell will be a Blazers because of the length of the contract.
- Jones - says Timberwolves will match and Hassell will stay in Minnesota. Hassell contract is cheap for a defensive specialist and does not see any player better at the SG for the same price that can shut other SGs/SFs down. Wolves were within one game of the Finals and doesn't see the Wolves getting back in the Western Conference finals without Hassell.
Darius Miles
- Jones - Blazers really want Miles, but have been very up front and honest with Miles. Blazers have seen and been burned on providing overblown contracts (i.e. Damon, Rasheed, Pippen) and are more realistic with Nash as GM. Jones said Nash told Miles to get whatever better deal he can find, but the Blazers will match. Unfortunately teams know the Blazers will match and are reluctant to offer. Blazers have heard from teams interested in a sign and trade, but Jones said so far it has been no deal.
- Jones doesn't think Miles will sign until training camp opens when he knows he can't get a better deal.
- Rice said Miles will not be happy, but hopes he can prove his worth for more money next summer.
Nick Van Exel
- Jones - Good trade for Portland. Nick is known to win games with his shooting, something that Dale Davis and Dan Dickau aren't known for. Nick will bring a new dimension to the Blazers that they haven't had before..... consistent outside shooting.
- Rice - Damon is not going to be happy that his playing time is getting cut down to 30 min. a game even through last year Damon wanted help.
- Jones - Damon just needs to come with the right attitude that it is all about winning and not about minutes. If the Blazers are winning with 32 minutes each from Damon, DA and Van Exel then everything will be fine.
- Jones - Telfair is the player that will be hurt the most from Van Exels arrival. Jones expects Telfair will start at PG (i.e. 05-06) if he had the minutes this year, but Nash & Cheeks want to make the playoffs. If the Blazers don't look like they will make the playoffs 3/4th of the season, look for Telfair to get his playing time.
Trade Rumors about Blazers
Ruben Patterson
Rice - Ruben is going to find out like he found last season that there are going to be very few teams interested in Ruben because of his $2.1M trade kicker. Because of the CBA rules, Ruben can not waive the trade kicker.
Rice - Blazers have heard from some teams, but so far it is getting back worse contracts or lesser quality player with a shorter team contract.
Jones - expect Ruben to be a Blazer unless a team needs a defensive SF for the playoffs this year.
Theo Ratliff
Rice - Carter's popularity with the Raptors has fallen so much that the Raptors have went from a dozen times on national TV to only twice on TV. The Raptors are starting to realize that maybe it's time to start over and send Carter packing.
Jones mentioned a rumor that he said was talked about....
$10.94M - Theo Ratliff to Phoenix
$11.33M - Shawn Marion to Toronto
$12.58M - Vince Carter to Portland
Rice - "no way" Nash & Cheeks like Theo too much and who would be a center for the Blazers? Vladimir??? Ha???
Jones - why not? Carter is still a superstar quality player that would bring new hope & excitement to the Blazers that they haven't seen since the Drexler days.
Rice - Blazers should not give up Theo, the player to sell in this trade is Shareef. Toronto is forced to play Carter 45+ min. a game because a lack of depth. This is why Carter breaks down so much in Toronto. Carter is better suited for 35 minutes. Blazers have enough depth that the Blazers could extend his career.
Rice - thinks the Blazers could send Shareef & Miles to the Raptor for Carter & ??? Alvin Williams
Joe Johnson or Shawn Marion
Rice - He is hearing that both Shawn Marion or Joe Johnson are being shopped for a center or a player that can player PF/C.
Jones - Doesn't think Joe Johnson will be traded because he is still a cheap player to have on the payroll. He is worth more than what he is paid. Look for Marion to be traded.
Peja Stojakovic
Rice - the only way Peja is traded is if a good center is available. He thinks it would take Ratliff to get Peja as a Blazer.
Tyson Chandler or Eddy Curry
Rice - Memphis is interested in trading for Eddy Curry. Bonzi is part of that trade to Chicago for Curry. Curry has been a disappointment for Chicago and they maybe ready to ship him off.
A caller asked about getting Chandler.
Jones - Thinks Chandler would be a good player for Portland, but it would require taking back some bad contracts to get Tyson. Jones thinks only one of the two (i.e. Chandler or Curry) will be a Bull after the trade deadline this season.
Rice - At first it was Chandler being trade bait, then Crawford and now Curry. Rice agrees it will take a Antonio Davis, Eddie Robinson and/or Jerome Williams to be included in any trade.
Blazer schedule
Rice - expects the Blazers to be above .500 before the All-Star break because how the schedule is planned. He thinks the Blazers will struggle in the 2nd half of the season.

The more of you that email them, the better. If they know there's a demand for it, they'll be more likely to work to fix the problem.
