Nets NOT shopping Kidd?

Here's part of an article from Thursday's NYtimes.

QUOTE]The Nets continued to refuse to comment yesterday on speculation that they might trade Jason Kidd, but team officials are perturbed that talk of trading Kidd for Portland's Shareef Abdur-Rahim had been portrayed so seriously, an Eastern Conference executive said.[/quote]

The Nets are baffled why Portland's president, Steve Patterson, made comments Tuesday indicating that actual trade talks involving Kidd and Abdur-Rahim had occurred. He was quoted on CBSSportsline.com as saying talks regarding the two players are "interesting, but I don't know if anything will happen."[

LOL. Thanks. Long day at work. Not paying too much attention to how careful I am with the computer.

I hear ya, I have my doubts about this trade, but it could be something of a bigger trade. If nothing else, John Nash is increasing SAR's value now and that isn't going to hurt Portland one bit.

I would hate to see Portland throw away all their cap room on this deal. I could handle moving Rahim, but Damon's contract I would rather see expire or moved for a player that isn't such a health gamble.

The real puzzler is why Patterson didn't hide behind the usual Blazers mantra of "We don't discuss trades." Was it just a rare moment of candor or was there some purpose behind the comment? Trying to kite the value of Rahim so another team will bite, perhaps?

Inquiring minds want to know.
