2 days into camp and i think these are the biggest questions!!!
Personally I think Im most curious about these 2 issues!
1. Will Van Exel contibute on a nightly basis getting 20-25 minutes or will he end up only playing 20-30 games all year?
2. Who will be our starting SF on opening night? I guess it looks like SAR, if he can do the job in preseason! To be honest i laughed at NAsh when he had this idea in July but now with SAR looking a little more trim and SOMEWHAT like a SF....id say hes got a good shot at the spot come opening night!
I honestly would like Miles ta that spot though rather than sar and can only hope we get a SG for SAR sooner than later!
So go ahead and answer those questions.

Hello:
1. I have a feeling Nick will contribute on a nightly basis. I'm kinda thinking he will have an impact sort of like Wes Person: not very many minutes, but very appreciated and essential to a lot of nice production from the team as a whole. Anyways, no matter what, Nick Van Exel 04-05 > Dale Davis 04-05.
2. John Nash knows, and all of you should know, that the way to get the best deal for SAR is to showcase a healthy, effective 04-05 SAR. Teams are interested, but a complaining, ineffective, 8-minute per game bench player is worth much less than a starting, 30 mpg happier SAR. Start him for a couple months so he's putting up some nice numbers and not complaining, then BAM! Hello ________ (insert all-star SG here)

Wes > NVE by a mile, both in FG% and chemistry.
2-3 months of "showcasing" SAR getting reamed by REAL SF's will guarantee another lottery trip this year. Not worth a doubtful slight upgrade in trade value. There's no mystery there. The entire league knows exactly what SAR can and can't do. Playing him out of position can only DECREASE his value, and our playoff hopes, slim as they are.

LOL at this.
Nick hasn't played one minute for the Blazers yet. How can you reasonably say that Wes is better "by a mile?" You have nothing to compare them to.
And while I don't like SAR at all, it's absurd to think that he will be "reamed" this year by "real" SFs. He kicked serious A when he was with the Grizz as a SF. Why is it that the points you make never seem to have any substance behind them?

I can believe that Nick might be more valuable to the Blazers than Wes was (in terms of on the court production). That said, I'd have to think that Wes is a better option than NVE for minutes spent at shooting guard.
As for SAR at SF, I think we'll all just have to wait and see. He's several years removed from high quality SF minutes. Maybe he's changed his body enough that he can get back to where he was but, even at his best, he wasn't a great outside shooter. I'm not sure Miles is much better but, if Miles then slides to a the 2 for a bulk of his minutes, that means guys like DA, Frahm, and NVE aren't in the game at that position -- guys who are all better outside shooters than either SAR or Miles. I dunno. I get that this team is still very much a work in progress and, while there are some nice pieces here, it's hard for me to be very optimistic about this coming season.

Right back at you.
We have Wes's stats vs NVE's stats over both of their long, long careers.
Our need is at SG. Wes can shoot, Nick can't. Simple as that.
Any minutes NVE plays at PG just robs our new midget Telfair of the PT he needs to become valuable for us.
SAR never kicked anything or anybody at the SF position with the Teddy Bears or anywhere else. He's the most docile player I've ever seen. He's a lottery player who drags every team he's on into the lottery. He's too slow with his footwork and way too clumsy with his ballhandling to not embarass himself against any starting small-forward in the league. Even WeakCheeks realizes that much.

"our new midget Telfair "..
I find that very offensive.
There is nothing unusual about a guy being even shorter than Telfair.
Why on earth would label someone his height or even under that
a midget??
It is absolutely incorrect and mean..
Usually when I meet guys who tend to call other guys midgets,
it usually is the other way round.

He's a flat 6', according to his employers:
http://www.nba.com/blazers/roster/index.html
That is just under normal height for an American male, but quite short for an NBA player, even a PG.
Didn't mean it as a slam on him. Damon is 2" shorter and I love his game. But they are both midgets in the world of basketball.
Not in any way a Blazers hater, just see NVE and SAR as horrible choices for this team.
I'm quite confident they will not do anything to prove otherwise.

Sorry Ed. I got the 6'1 from Nate Bishop who said that he and Bassy were eye to eye, and Nate is 6'1. Anyways, I'm not gonna fight over an inch.

Actually, the average height for an American male is 5' 9", well short of 6' 1" or 6' whichever you believe him to be (see http://www.betaller.com/average-male-height.htm or any other website on google search will reveal the same statistics).
Telfair is a little short for a point guard in any league. You don't want your point to be too tall as they lose quickness and usually ballhandling skills and co-ordination as they get taller. The lower the ball is to the floor, the quicker the dribble, and more difficult it is to steal the ball. Tony Parker is aproximately the same height, and is quite the effective PG. As long as Bassy puts on some muscle and learns to use his strength, his height will be a non issue. But that's a few years away, he's still a teen, probably still growing too, I know I gained an inch in height between age 18-20.
I agree that Wes was an excellent fit on the Blazers and NVE probably can't fit that same type of role and be effective that way, but he's not meant to be. NVE is not a spot up shooter like Wes was, that's what Frahm is for. NVE is an off and on spark plug. He's one of those guys you can bring in in a reserve role in this point of his career, and if he's on, he'll burn the other team, and if he's off, you can pull him out. I think even on his off nights, NVE will be looking less to be a scorer or "the man" like he has on past teams. From what he's said he seems to understand that he's never going to be NVE of old, and wants to have a small backup role on this team. Works for me. Personally, I can't wait to see him burn the Lakers and GSW, and all the other teams he used to be on. He's a lot like Ruben in that sense.
