Van Exel Knows His Role (Trib)

From: PDX Tribune

Quote:
“I see myself like I was in Dallas — coming off the bench, running the show, throwing the ball in to Z-Bo (Zach Randolph), knocking down open jump shots, making plays."
I likey.

Quote:
“Nick is a terrific competitor, a winner,” says Portland assistant coach John Loyer, an assistant at the University of Cincinnati during Van Exel’s two seasons there. “He has a big heart, big stones. He wants the ball. We labeled him as a guy who’s not only willing to take the big shot, he can go to bed at night after making it or missing it.”
What does "big stones" mean?

Has any Blazer in recent times talked more about playing less?

I mean, we've had an overweight coke addict who seemed more eager to play than NVE... and Pippen, who seemingly had every movable part in his body falling apart, talked about pacing himself, but he struck me as a guy who wanted to be on the floor and making a difference.

Nick, at age 32, seems like he's about ready to retire already.

I think Nick just relishes being the assassin. Play it low key then put the knife through the heart at the end...
