My scrimmage recap
I think some of you have done a pretty good job of recapping the scrimmage. I'm just going to add a couple of things.
Nick Van Exel looks really rusty. The guy just didn't have it tonight. I don't know if that's because of the knee, or because he hasn't played in a while, but he sure wasn't the Nick I remember.
Ruben Patterson may be Cheeks' pick for the top player of the training camp thus far, but he looked like crap tonight. He was out of control, he couldn't hit a shot, and overall he just wasn't having a good scrimmage. So much for throwing him into the starting small forward mix.
Telfair is deadly from 15 feet in, but you put him out on the perimeter and he can't hit squat. So he'll have to use his quickness to get within range in order to put up points. That may work for a while, but it won't be something he can do for his career. Hopefully all his hard work will improve his shot.
Here are some of the stats from tonights game. I'm not sure of their accuracy. I was trying to keep stats and watch the game, so I might have missed a couple buckets.
Damon Stoudamire - 16 points
Richie Frahm - 7 points
Darius Miles - 9 points
Theo Ratliff - 9 points
Shareef Abdur-Rahim - 10 points
Nick Van Exel - 2 points
Derek Anderson - 9 points
Ruben Patterson - 6 points
Zach Randolph - 21 points
Joel Przybilla - 6 points
Travis Outlaw - 11 points
Sebastian Telfair - 8 points
James Lang - 2 points

Thanks for the recap. Just out of curiosity, think there's any chance that some Blazer's official (perhaps a coach) might have been tracking points, assists, etc? I'd love to see more details. Also, I'm interested in what the line-ups actually were. Thanks again!

Thanks Nate.. In the other recap he/she talked about Outlaw, what do you have to say about him? Any more comments on Bassy, Frahm, Lang? Oh, almost forgot, did Geno Carslisle even get in?

to answer your question.... no they weren't keep stats. In fact... something I thought was funny.... The Blazers asked me to forward them the numbers I logged because Cheeks had been asking for them.
As far as the lineups went....
The Starters for the black team were:
Nick Van Exel
Derek Anderson
Ruben Patterson
Zach Randolph
Joel Przybilla
Starters for white team:
Damon Stoudamire
Richie Frahm
Darius Miles
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Theo Ratliff
Second half starters for black:
Nick Van Exel
Derek Anderson
Travis Outlaw
Zach Randolph
Joel Przybilla
Second half starters for white:
Damon Stoudamire
Richie Frahm
Darius Miles
James Lang
Theo Ratliff
Third (and extra 12 minutes that Cheeks decided to add)
black starters:
Sebastian Telfair
Nick Van Exel
Travis Outlaw
Zach Randolph
Joel Przybilla
white starters:
Damon Stoudamire
Richie Frahm
Darius Miles
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Theo Ratliff

Outlaw was kicking butt. Although most of his points came off dunks. He had one nice jumper from the top of the key, and was fouled on the shot, but missed the extra point.
He's super athletic. He tries hard. I like Outlaw's game, but I think most of you guys already know that. I think he's going to be good.
Bassy seemed tentative for the first half, but he picked up in the second. He made a few impressive drives, both resulting in scores, but he also missed a few open shots from the perimeter. He also displayed a couple of nice passes, one in particular where he slashed to the basket, went up for the layup, and somehow felt one of his guys behind him and reached around and dropped it off. Unfortunately the guy botched the layup, but the pass was SWEET.
Frahm wasn't lighting it up like he had been, but he still looked good. I think people finally saw that the guy is more than just a shooter.
Lang looked better. Didn't make as many mistakes. Still I think he needs to lose a lot of weight.
Carlisle played, did virtually nothing.

Thanks. I got 1 more question, might ask a few more later. How was Derek? Did you hear, or talk to anyone? Is his back 100% now?

Derek was hitting shots, but also missing a ton of shots as well. He looks more active out there, but I just don't think the guy is the answer for us at the two. I actually like Frahm better at this point.
Fact is, DA hasn't played the same since Juwan Howard undercut him. He's afraid to go to the basket. That was a HUGE part of his game. Now he's relegated to lofting shots from the perimeter.
And as far as his health, he is supposedly closer to 100%, but not there yet. I'll ask him again the next time I see him.

I think the roster won't change at all.
I think they'll keep Woods. I think they'll keep Step. Lang and Carlisle are gone. That's just my opinion. If they cut woods I'd be shocked. He's in his last year, and they might need him to make a deal work later in the season. He may just sit on the IR.
