DA "Slams" Damon?
Read between the lines.

“Ruben is going to play hard,” Anderson says. “But if he’s not playing, he’s not going to be happy, and (Blazer executives Steve Patterson and Nash) know that. If he’s not going to play, why even have him on our roster? Because he’s not going to help us. We need to find guys who want to be here and come off the bench and do what they’re supposed to do. Ruben can’t do that.”

(DA) spends his offseasons in Louisville, Ky., but says that will change when his career ends. “I pray every day I can retire here,” he says. “The people are so good. They have stood by me. I haven’t gotten that kind of support before except in San Antonio. This is a beautiful place. The weather in the summer is great, and during the season, it’s work, anyway. After I retire, I might coach, run for mayor — I don’t know. I just love it here.”

Not to sound cynical or anything, but...
1. Apparently DA doesn't read the forums very much, and...
2. Of COURSE he's saying that he loves it here and wants to retire a Blazer!

2-3 seconds left? The problem with DA is that he'll throw up crap jump shots with ALOT of time left on the clock.

Anderson and Stoudamire will again be co-captains. Cheeks says he may add a third captain.

DA just seems very very cocky to me, and nothing is ever his fault. Or maybe arrogant is a better word.

Didn't DA do everything in his power to force his way out of San Antonio to Portland when you guys were spending money like crazy.

It's a bit of a swipe at Damon IMO, but no real biggie. It's a fact that those two were the bail out/end of the shotclock options last year. Hopefully with a little more time together as a group, the on court chemistry between the starters will be improved, because the O sure didn't flow well.
I think DA has the potencial (by being healthier) to make the biggest individual difference for this years club. Last year playing through his back injury was probably the worst of his career. Even with him hobbled, his addition to the lineup (about the same time that Miles was added) seemed to me to be a big improvement over the McInnis-Damon pairing, and the team did reel off more W's. If he's right going into this year, things will likely be better.

Actually DA is correct in regards to Damon, and it has been a recurring problem with POR offense when Damon is in at PG. He takes too long to get into the offense & he dribbles too much. A lot of times dumping the ball off to another player with 2-3 seconds on the shot clock. THAT is a problem, that is not DA (or any other players fault for that matter).

Of course to be fair there were plenty of times when DA had all the time he needed and still couldn't bury the money ball.

Of course Damon wouldn't give the ball to DA until all other options had been ruled out.
DA shot .370 last year.
IMO, Damon showed consideral restraint by not throwing it to Ruben on the bench instead.

But he'll miss it, no point in having him shoot if we know he's gonna brick it as usual. The guards have no discipline in this Blazers team because Cheeks doesn't command it. They should be looking for Zach Randolph on each and every play, no exceptions.

Having reread my post, it does sound like I'm standing up for Damon... but believe me I recognise his many shortcomings. I fully cringe at his lack of ability/unwillingness to share the ball, especially at making entry passes.
His wings are both good sized and fully capable of getting the ball into the post though. As bad a year as DA had last season, he did get career high 4.5 assists per. Maybe Damon should just be focusing on getting the ball up over half court and then giving it up to DA or Darius to run the point. He could then run around Theo's screens setting up his respectable J as the 5'8 shooting gaurd he truely is, instead of seemingly (to me at least) being so concerned about being the guy to make the pass that sets up the shot or taking it himself.
I'd love to see better flow, but I think we've seen enough to know what sort of play we're likely to get from him... thats why ultimately my biggest hopes are in an upgrade by trade rather then internal improvement.
