Blazers cut James Lang

The Trail Blazers have released 6'10" center James Lang out of Central Park Christian High School in Alabama.

Rats. I had high hopes for the guy. Whatever the reasons were, it sounds like the Blazers were very sure they didn't want Lang around. They could easily have kept him on the roster a couple of more weeks, but it looks like they wanted him GONE.

Wonder why?

Probably because he's fat and lazy and he sucks. It's better not to have guys like that around your training camp.

The only reason anyone gives a damn about this bum is that at one point he was projected as a first round pick. The scouts have already admitted they were wrong about him, but for some reason a lot of fans take a lot longer to give up on guys like this.

I agree, if that's the case. I've never seen the guy play, I just heard he had loads of potential.

Maybe Lang and Qyntel Woods can hop the same train out of town.

The Blazers should've given up on Qyntel Woods a long time ago in my opinion. It's pretty obvious he's never going to amount to anything. I don't know why they even brought James Lang in either, did they actually expect that he got motivated after being cut and got into better shape or something? Come on.

no.... they brought him and Geno Carlisle in for camp fodder. As said before, the team already has 15 guaranteed contracts.

I could never figure out why they signed them both anyways.. as its been discussed ... they already had 15 guarenteed contracts

if one had panned out... they would have had to pay the others, and cut them.. then turn around and pay one of these on top of it.. adding to payroll $... increasing luxury tax payments...

it was a very long shot at best

well, I think they brought in Carlisle because Van Exel wasn't doing much practicing in camp. They needed a third point guard to spell Damon and Bassy.

As far as Lang goes, they probably would have considered cutting Step in favor of signing Lang. Only problem was, Lang stinks.

I disagree. I saw something on Sunday. There is some talent there, much more than Stepania. I wonder if there are other issues, why else would they have cut him so soon. We'll see.

???? Why did they sign the guy in the first place?? As already noted, from a financial perspective, this now appears to be a really dumb move. How long was he here? 2 weeks? Maybe a trade that included Step fell through? I just can't see why in the hell you sign a guy and cut him in such a short period. It would be one thing if it were the regular season and you have injuries, but this just doesn't make sense.

I don't think they were paying him anything... and if they were, it would have been very minimal. Every team does this, they have camp fodder. Guys who come in and push the guys with guaranteed contracts. This is nothing new.

The Blazers have a decent Center rotation with Theo, Joel, Vladi, and Ha waiting in the wings. They don't need to waste a roster spot on Lang (although I would have liked to see him in action personally).

They also don't need to waste a roster spot on Qyntel. Unfortunately, they need to be very careful about waiving him. If they do it for the wrong reason - with out enough supporting evidence to justify it - they could open themselves up for a lawsuit.

I don't think they'd be subject to a law suit. If they waived him and tried not to pay him, it would go to arbitration, it seems, as the collective bargaining agreement calls for.
