One of the best guys in the NBA has retired. Avery Johnson was a class act for all 16 years of his stellar career--and he helped lead the San Antonio Spurs to an NBA title even though Damon Stoudamire foolishly predicted that he would never do it. My hat's off to you, Avery. It was a pleasure to watch you play and conduct yourself like a true gentleman throughout your career. The NBA is poorer without you on the court.

Into the breach steps former Blazer Dan Dickau, whose career may have been saved by the roster spot that Johnson's retirement opened up. Did Avery pull off another class act in his last role as a player? It would seem so.

Wow... Dickau was going to be cut ahead of Avery Johnson in spite of having a guaranteed contract? Hopefully Dan can show someone that he can play at the NBA level this year or else he might be out of luck altogether next year.
