I heard a whacky rumor that they had backloaded the deal so that Zach got a goodly chunk of his money in the form of a 25 Million dollar balloon payment in 2012. I haven't heard if there are any conditions on that. And it's also something that a friend of mine told me so that information is not reliable at all.

My understanding is that they've "stretched" the payments beyond the length of the actual contract so that the actual salary he gets each year is less than it would have been otherwise, but that the Blazers will keep paying him beyond the length of the contract (but not a $25M lump-sum payment). It's apparently the same kind of arrangement that AK47 got with Utah.
