Since Cimalee seems to be gone on his hiatus... here are my notes....
Courtside Monday Night – Bob Acadian (sp?) & Jay Allen were the hosts tonight
Kelly Tripucka – Nets TV color analyst
- Jefferson is realizing he needs to be the leader of the team while Kidd is recovering. Jefferson has been working really hard on all his skills the last two years and is now ready to help this team.
- Jefferson will be the next all-star for the Nets.
- Kelly thinks if the Blazers want to win the game, they should double team Jefferson, because that is the word around the league.
- Alonzo Mourning – it’s great that he is making a comeback and so far is doing well on the court. It’s unfortunate he wants out because management is going in a different direction and may not be a championship quality team. He is sure if Alonzo is willing to give back last year salary where the Nets paid him while he was injured and to forget the rest of the salary the Nets would let him go. Rod Thorn is not going to buy out Mourning’s contract, he is looking for equal value and knows it will be difficult to get value with Mourning kidney history.
Mike Barrett
- A very common problem that Portland had last year showed up in the Toronto game in knowing what to do in the 4th quarter in a close game.
- Randolph was on a different level on Sunday, he was determined to win the game, but he wasn’t getting the ball at the end of the game.
- Van Exel was struggling with his shot and Damon was having trouble getting the ball inside against Toronto sagging in the middle against Zach.
- A tough game against Toronto, arriving the night before and then have to play the next morning in relation to Pacific Time.
- Mike knows for a fact that New Jersey is still shopping Jason Kidd. The Nets know that Travis Best and Jacque Vaughn are not the answer at PG. Mike knows they are looking for a PF to build with Richard Jefferson.
- Sebastin Telfair was just bounding off of the team bus when they arrived in New Jersey. Sebastin has so many people he plans on connecting too and seeing before game time. Mike doesn’t know if Cheeks will give Sebastin any playing time, but he does know that Sebastin will have a fan base going to see if he will play.
Email Questions
- Darius Miles – why not move Darius to the SG position and let Shareef stay at SF for the rest of the year? (HAP's question)
----------Miles is still a ways away from shooting from the outside consistently. He has a lot of the SG skills except for his outside shot and Acadian thinks the Blazers will be playing Miles at SG at times. Long term the Blazers want Miles to be their SF of the future and will be looking to acquire an outside shooter via trade, free agency or the draft.
- Ruben Patterson – why are fans and media wanted to trade Ruben, he seems to be the best defender and most active player out there?
----------Ruben is the one who caused most of the controversy during the early summer. Ruben saw that Shareef was going to be here during the start of the season and with Darius Miles in the backup. Ruben wants to start for a NBA team and doesn’t see his chance of starting for the Blazers occurring and wants to go to a team where he can start. Teams do like Ruben and if he keeps playing at the level he is playing he maybe traded before the Feb. trade deadline. In all reality, it maybe until Feb ’06 before teams will want to trade for Ruben because of his contract and trade kicker.
Jim Kozimor – Kings TV Pre, Halftime & Post game host
- Brian Wheeler is a close friend (Wheeler was his best man at his wedding).
- The Kings schedule and the early injuries to their top eight players did not help. The first three games were home openers for Dallas, San Antonio and Houston. This is why they have lost all three road games.
- Peja needs to get over the fact his buddy Vlade Divac is no longer there and get back to his all-star level performance in order for the Kings to do well in the playoffs.
- Chris Webber is being shopped, but no one wants him. He came out and said he will not be 100% until February. No teams are interested until they see Webber at 100%.
- People in Sacramento either hate Chris Webber or dislike him. People in Sacramento like Bobby Jackson because of all the community & charity programs he is involved in.
- Sacramento is like Portland without the one championship. The fans in Sacramento were in love with the Kings when they were winning. Now that they are struggling and losing games the fans are frustrated. The fans are tired of hearing all the bickering with Webber & Peja.
- When Geoff Petrie found Peja he was booed by the Kings fan and received a lot of criticism. There is a professional ego with Petrie who got two great players for the money in Peja and Bobby Jackson.
Brian Wheeler
- One thing he likes about Cheeks is he will bring the players together before the practice and asked the players in what they thought they did wrong and what they need to do to win the game. Cheeks likes to get the players involved in decisions and feel responsible for winning games.
- There aren’t too many players you want shooting the ball on this team. Van Exel and Zach Randolph are the two players Wheeler feels need to have the ball for a game winning shot.
- Wheels was with the NY media doing an NBA segment and in the same studio Zach was doing a interview segment. Wheeler was told by the NY announcer that they were very impressed with Zach’s composure & professional in answering questions for someone who is still considered a young player in the league.
Bob Acadian
- Predictions - Atlantic – Philadelphia, Central – Indiana, SE – Miami, Pacific – Phoenix, SW – San Antonio, NW – Minnesota, Bob also feels that Portland will make the playoffs.
- Zach has struggled in the pre-season because he wanted to improve so much that he was trying too hard. Now, we are seeing why it was good for Zach to find out for himself what he needed to do in pre-season to improve his game.

Thanks for the recap.
RE: Mourning, I saw the NJ-Miami game and Shaq was playing Mourning pretty softly. They showed Alonzo's kidney protecting pad (his new kidney is in the front), it is obviously something he needs to be careful about. I think any player with any respect for 'Zo is going to NOT bang with him. Even Shaq, who bumps without trying to, was standing two feet away with his arms up instead of going at him.
Would you want to be the guy who killed Alonzo Mourning?
