Eddy Curry?

Quote:
The Trail Blazers are one of a handful of teams trying to play amid daily trade rumors, most of them involving forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who has been linked to possible trades involving Vince Carter, Jason Kidd and Eddy Curry.
I know Insider said the Bulls were one of about 7 teams talking to Nash about Rahim, but this is the first time I've heard Eddy Curry's name pop up in Rahim talks.

With players complaining about the paint being too clogged up with Randolph and Rahim, wouldn't we have the same problem with Randolph and Curry?

Only more so. SAR is currently shooting 46% from three point range and, while he's likely to drift back closer to where he's been for his career (just over 30%), he'll still be a far better shooter than Curry.

That said, Curry would come on board as a center, not a forward. Thus, he'd be sharing minutes with Theo and someone else (like Miles) would be taking the bulk of SAR's minutes. And, SAR seems to have better range than Miles, too, so until we get a SF (or perhaps SG) who can really shoot, I figure that losing SAR is only going to let other teams pack it in even more against the Blazers.

Ugh.. no Curry.. he's just another guy that'd clog up the middle.
Give us Hinrich, Gordon or Deng and start from there.

No on Curry, not because he isn't a talented young player but because if he ever does reach his potential he won't be a good compliment to Randolph. I think if we are looking at one of their young guys, it should be Chandler, he isn't more skilled than Curry but he CAN be a defensive presence and a very solid rebounder, I would get Chandler and another one of their players in return, maybe Gordon or Deng? Who knows but I would pass on Curry just because he wouldn't work well with Randolph, too redundant.

Good lord...YES...YES...YES.

Get Curry, Nash...brilliant move...I am serious.

IF Nash can pry Eddy Curry away from CHI for SAR then we should ALL be thankful. A young, legitimate center, who, even though he has underperformed is STILL a top prospect, the guy is only 21? 22?. 6'11, 290 or so. Yeah, you trade SAR for him and try not to let Paxson know how giddy you are.

I want to address this elusive search for a SG, and how it relates to SAR, or the "We need to trade SAR for a stud SG" mantra that is all too common on these boards.

It's a myth, I really think it is. What players are out there, that are legitimately available to acquire for SAR? I think we have seen them already, and from all accounts, Vince Carter, Jason Kidd (PG I know, but Nash would trade SAR for him in heartbeat), Wally Sczerbiak, these are the names that have been rumoured to have been discussed for SAR, and ultimately, IMO passed on by either POR or TOR\MIN\NJ.

Who else is LEGITIMATELY available to get? Seriously, there isn't anyone.

Ray Allen? - It will never happen
Michael Redd? - A pipe dream
Joe Johnson? - With the way PHX is playing, no way.
Paul Pierce? - Another pipe dream
Peja Stojakovic? - A cold day in hell before SAC trades him

Heck I agree with the sentiment a lot of you have, YES I want a SG, but the reality is that POR will most likely have to suffer through this year with what we got (DA\NVE).

SAR will be traded, but Nash would be dumb, if he limited himself to HAVING to get a SG back in return for him. HE should get the best player he can, & IF Eddy Curry is legitimately available, and IMO, he shouldn't be, but if he is then POR should try and seal this deal as soon as they can.

You take a flyer on Curry and pencil him in as your future frontline starter with Zach and probably Miles. You have 3 talented & young swingmen in Monia, Outlaw & Khryapa. You have your future starting PG in Telfair. You have Theo locked up as a starter now, valuable reserve role player towards the latter stages of his contract. ALL you are missing is the SG. You have DA and potentially Monia next year, and if you miss the playoffs (very likely), you stand a very good chance to address that in the draft, one that looks to be strong at SG.

Rudy Fernandez
Julius Hodge
Fransisco Garcia
Rodney Carney
RAshad McCants
Kennedy Winston
Deron Williams
Hassan Adams
Antoine Wright
and potentially
JR Giddens
HS Gerald Green

You deal SAR for Curry, and then you look to deal both Damon and NVE at the trade deadline for a young player and\or draft pick and whatever other "filler" you need to make the contracts match.

You enter the 2005 draft with your own, probable late lottery pick, and another draft pick. You, hopefully get a kid like Giddens\Fernandez\Garcia\Hodge\McCants or Carney with one pick and then go after the best player with the other pick.

I REALLy hope POR looks to take this approach. Build with youth, intermixed with a few veterans, let them grow together & add other key role players via the MLE and vet minimum.

You give a young team with Telfair, Giddens (or whomever POR takes @ SG), Miles, Zach & Curry with Monia, Khryapa, Outlaw, Theo and Ruben? as key cogs off the bench, time to grow, and POR could be sitting VERY well in a few short years from now.

Get Curry!
