Brian Wheeler on ESPN Radio All Night

Just finished listening to a segment on ESPN Radio All Night where Brian Wheeler was interviewed.

He talked about Zach Randolph not being as well known in the league as the other 4 players that averaged 20 and 10 last season. He said it is the result of many things (being on the west coast, the other 20-10 guys being more complete players at this point, etc...)

He talked about Zach and a few of his troubles during the off season. It was mentioned that Zach seems to be a really nice guy in person, but that he seems to have put him self in a few situations where people that are "doing things they shouldn't be doing."

He talked about Zach's contract extension. He said, despite the few troubles Zach has had, the franchise seems confident enough in him that they signed him to a pretty nice contract. He says he doesn't think Zach is the type of player that will just "coast through the motions" now that he has his big contract. "He wants to be mentioned among those other 20-10 guys, guys like Shaq and Duncan. I think he's the kind of player that will work to improve to the point of being as well known in the league."

He talked about the Sonics and Suns hot starts. "I do think they are for real," Wheels said. He said he hopes that other coaches pay attention to the success of these two teams, because he credited it to the following things: Good fundamentals, good passing, and good shooting. "As we all know, lots of coaches in this league are copy-cats, and once they see something that works, they will try it as well. The type of basketball the Suns and Sonics play is fun to watch."

He talked about playing the Jazz both on Friday and today. "You can look at it two ways, either the Blazers were playing the Jazz at a good time, or at a bad time. On one hand, they had lost 6 in a row. On the other hand, no Jazz team coached by Jerry Sloan had ever lost 7 in a row. They came close to a win over Orlando earlier in the week, so they were hungry for a win."

This aired around 12:50 AM. Anyone else hear it? I know I couldn't have been the only one still awake.
