SAR's Injury "Bogus"
People will print what they want, I guess..
From: FoxSports.com
Quote:
It's ironic that one of the current good guys, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, a natural power forward, is upset over having to play out of position at small forward. That's because Randolph has been designated as the team's franchise player and is therefore a fixture at the power forward slot. The situation has gotten so messy that A-R has missed several games with what has been announced as a hyperextended elbow — yet some Blazer-watchers claim that the injury is bogus. The supposition is that Abdur-Rahim is trying to force the Blazers to deal him.
The lesson here is that the Blazers can transform good guys into bad guys.........

Oh, and I might as well add........

Final analysis
Okay, so what to make of these guys?
The Bucks were severely handicapped by injuries— Keith Van Horn, Toni Kukoc, Danny Santiago, and T.J. Ford were all wearing civvies. But, no matter what the level of the competition, wins away from the sweet confines of the Rose Garden are always hard to come by.
A year ago, the Blazers were 1-13 on the road. The win in Milwaukee upped their road record to 6-9 this season. And surely veteran shooters like Anderson, Van Exel and Stoudamire will eventually perform up to their established career standards. Also, Abdur-Rahim will indeed be traded in the not so distant future — and if the Blazers wind up with another good guy who wants to play in Portland, then perhaps the team's split personalities might be integrated into a fully functional and winning ball club.
Perhaps not.
The only certainty that emerged from the game is this: The Bucks are so bad that they put white hats on virtually everybody they play.......

I think the supposition of the supposition is bogus. I seriously doubt that is the manner in which Reef would try to force a trade.

I agree.
No question in my mind that Reef's injury is legitimate and that he will (peacefully) bide his time as a Blazer.

I'm sure he is hurt, but I have to admit I'm surprised he's missed so many games with the elbow injury. I thought it would be a game, maybe 2-3 at most.

I recall reading in a Quick article in the Oregonian a refernce to Abdur-Rahim's "mysterious" elbow injury. I'm inclined to take SAR at his word, but there's been very little explanation that I've read (someone help me out?) as to how the Blazers' forward got hurt.
Anyone?

SAR and his agent made rumblings this summer about him not coming back to Portland. Period.
When he got a chance to start, I think it was part of an agreement with management to show him off until he could be traded.
There's a good chance that recently the team has either (a) told him he was going back to the bench, or (b) passed on an opportunity to trade him, and his agent found out about it.
Either way, I could see SAR resting in response.

I heard Mike Barret (or whatever his name is) in a recent interview or Blazers update say that Rahim really wanted to play and was very frustrated but was having trouble even straightening his arm. I have also seen several quotes from Rahim where he states that he would prefer to finish the year in Portland. I have a hard time believing that either Rahim or Barret are the lying type.

Even Quick calls the injury "mysterious."

What is really strange about it,it should have been apparent to
Wheels and Rice.
If you hyper extend any limb ,it is a sudden pain.
You wouldn't keep playing..somebody would have seen his expression at the moment. It's an instantaneous event.
They never mentioned it during the game he supposedly did it in.
Surely they would have said something about it during the course of the game.Or afterward.Someone should have seen something.
It's not like you notice it after the game..down in the locker room.
It is abit mysterious.
I am just speculating,but I don't know if I believe it.

Fake or not, the team's no worse off with him "resting," so it doesn't really matter all that much.

doesn't it feel strange to say comments that are about the *team*, of this nature, and not have someone pipe in about how wrong we are?
because to us, it's always about how the team performs, and rarely the individual.

Well said.
What many probably don't realize, mostly due to the antagonistic nature any SAR-related discussion took on with Play around, is I've never been anti-SAR. I've actually liked him as a player throughout his college and NBA career. He just isn't/wasn't a good fit for this team, and it seems we've currently got a good example of addition by subtraction. Both Darius and Ruben are significantly better with Shareef out of the lineup, and it appears NVE, Damon, and DA might be, too.

speaking of Mike B,
I would give more weight to what NOT was said by Wheels and Rice than to Mike.
reason being Wheels and Rice really seem to have a good idea
of what's going on during the game.
Nobody mentioned it.
Again,it might be a very real thing, but gosh didn't one player see
anything? No commnent after the game? Locker room interview?
