Blazer Woes
The BIG deal about SAR is that now he's very damaged goods. Mo was a good soldier, took his marching orders from HQ and sacrificed wins to showcase SAR for a trade and now it's backfired in a major way. SAR cannot be traded at this point in time and if he has season ending surgery, we will not trade him and he walks after the season and we get el zippo in return. Nobody wants that runt Damon and he walks as well. Theo is hurt and that leaves us with "foul a minute" Godzilla. Zach is nursing a bum knee and isn't as active as he would usually be. Our only other player that wants out is the Gansta, but his salary is so huge and his play so poor that a trade involving him is also very questionable. Mike Rice states Ha will absolutely not play this year or next due to astoundingly poor skills (but he also states he's young and has promise a few years down the road). I think this year is now officially in the toilet. In fact, our team has fully compelted it's circles and is now floating out to sea.
However, we will have a lottery pick and perhaps find a good player that might be an asset early next season. We also have that SG russkie that may pan out. Also, we will get a bit more PT for both Addidas Telfair & Outlaw (love that name!) and perhaps we can dig up an excuse to bring back Quintel (fat chance).
And the ball bounces along. BUT, we're gonna get thru this and be fine. Keep the faith.

Yeah, me too. I was expecting a really nice trade involving either SAR or Zach, but if this elbow problem needs surgery, then all our plans are gone unless we can work out a sign & trade. But SAR would have no reason to do so as he'd be an unrestricted free agent.

Well, unless you count as a reason the likelihood of him wanting to make more than the MLE.

IMO, teams will still be interested in SAR, because of his expiring contract.

Toilet? Have you no sense of proportion? We're decidedly average. If you can accept that, it will make the season much easier to watch.

Portland should have traded Reef earlier in the season. I fear Portland loses him and gets nothing for Sheed. Now that would be a big joke.

To be fair, even if SAR walks, we DO have Theo... now, Ratliff's overrated by some and he's undoubtedly overpaid (and will be for some time, thanks to Nash and the extension).
But starting centers don't grow on trees and when Theo's healthy he's a difference-maker on defense.

Where has it been written that Abdur-Rahim's elbow injury is season-ending and requires surgery?
I'm all for moping in my oatmeal when there's good reason, but as far as I have heard, Abdur-Rahim's elbow injury is a hyperextension, which can usually be healed without surgery, right? Solid, experienced power forwards who can reliably put up 18 and 9 are not exactly growing on trees these days. If Seattle wants to make noise in the playoffs, rather than depending on their outside shooting for the rest of the season, I might suggest that they orchestrate a 3-way to get Abdur-Rahim, no?
Or what about Miami? What kind of a frontcourt would that be - with Shaq and Shareef? It'd be one good enough to give the San Antonio Spurs fits.
I think there will be plenty of takers for Abdur-Rahim when the time comes.

Ed O, I agree about Theo. Personally, I'm not too concerned about his contract as, when healthy, he is a very good center. He's also shown he can be ascertive on offense when given a chance. Also, who could possibly have a better mentor for younger players? To me, that's worth something.

Purely speculation. I read this blurb over on the BlazerBlog:

Now Abdur-Rahim is sidelined with a mystery elbow injury. Worst-case scenario for the Blazers: Rahim's injury requires season-ending surgery. That would leave the team holding an empty bag at the end of the year as Rahim becomes unrestricted and will most likely walk. In the end, that could mean the Blazers traded Rasheed Wallace for Theo Ratliff and cap relief.

It is known that there is some free floating entity in the elbow. If it continues to plague him, then it will most likely have to be removed surgically. If that happens, it will probably be a season ending surgery. As to what the chances are, they get better every day he can't play or has inflammation.

What were we really expecting out of our 19 year old 2nd round pick, who has about 3-4 years of basketball experience???

Yeah, we can look forward to another draft where we can pick the best 18 year old project available or some unproven guys from overseas averaging 5ppg on their Russian basketball team.....
The real solution to this mess that is blazer basketball is to:
First fire Nash and then Cheeks...
Bring in a former well-respected Blazer such as Clyde, Kersey, Buck Williams or someone of that nature....
If you look around the league former Blazer players are pretty good talent evaluators: Ex. Petrie, Vandeweghe and Ainge...

Since he's been their he has gotten rid of Antoine Walker who is very overrated IMO, picked up a Payton for a bunch of scrubs and had a very good draft with picking up Al Jefferson and Tony Allen who are both making a big impact this year......And they're actually playing some pretty good ball this year.....
