HAHA.. Check out this John Nash quote.
"No way I'd put Jameer Nelson ahead of Telfair; Jameer doesn't have quickness like that," said John Nash, the Portland GM. "I have Telfair way ahead of him. "Sebastian's already better than Damon Stoudamire."
Guess where I got this quote from?
This is how alot of fans had felt earlier in the season when we were pushing for Telfair to start or atleast get more playing time. Maybe Nash is just showcasing NVE and Damon.

It came from Jason Fleming's Hoopsworld Article. The John Nash quote came from an excerpt from the book coming out about Sebastian Telfair, called "The Jump."
"No way I'd put Jameer Nelson ahead of Telfair; Jameer doesn't have quickness like that," said John Nash, the Portland GM. "I have Telfair way ahead of him. Sebastian's already better than Damon Stoudamire."
"I just saw Jameer Nelson," Randy Pfund, the Miami GM, told another executive, "and he's the best point guard in college and he can't hold a candle to this kid. Sebastian runs the pick and roll better than most point guards in the NBA."

I just read that quote in the rose city report and chuckled a bit. I wonder if Nash still feels that way....
We'll know what Nash truly thinks if he re-signs Damon at the end of the year.

I think Nash is saying that Sebastian's QUICKNESS is already better than Damon's........ not necessarily his complete game.

I hate damon, but I too think the comment was taken a bit out of context. I think he either meant quickness, or at this age. Or maybe he was talking about being a "true" PG.

If the comment is accurate it makes me worry even more about our franchise. Nash is blind if he thinks that Telfair is better than Damon at this point in time.

Why didn't he say he was already "quicker" than Damon, instead of using the word "better"? Maybe or maybe not he was taken out of context, but I would have chosen my words more carefully.
He's really hard to tell what he truly meant though.

Actually after reading the entire article I think he meant already a better player. This to me is hilarious.

Interesting.
Anybody still believe Telfair would have been available at the #22 pick when Miami picked 19th?
Since Miami wasn't exactly picking for need by getting high schooler Dorell Wright (zero games played this year,) I think it's pretty safe to say Telfair would have been gone at #19 if not earlier.

What is so funny about it?
He is right.
Damon is nothing more than a glorified 5'8 SG, and anyone who ever bothered to watch St Joe's would know that Jameer Nelson was pretty much the same type of player w\o the outside consistency. Delonte West was more of a PG for that team than Nelson was.
Is there really any surprise that when Damon is basically given free range to jack up shots as often as he pleases, and when NVE is basically playing PG that his numbers have increased?
WHEN Mo loses his job, he can thank Damon, DA, Ruben, NVE & SAR...all guys by the way who have NO long term future with this team. So keep playing them Mo...untill your fired.

I think there's a good chance, absolutely.
And if we hadn't been able to trade up from 22, and he didn't drop to us, we would be able to take one of the several excellent PG prospects from this year's draft class.

Miami needed a PG. With Alston leaving, and wanting to move Wade to the "2", they had no one at PG. So they had to go out and get Damon Jones and Keyon Dooling. I think there's a real good chance they would have taken Telfair.

I agree. The only thing Damon does better than Telfair is shoot. Telfair has him beat in every other category. Plus Cheeks has the reigns pretty tight on Telfair, while Damon has free will to shoot as much as he pleases.
