I like Parker doing football far more than basketball. He puts more emotion into the Beavers football teams, imho.

The best thing that could happen is for the Blazers to fire Wheeler and hire Parker and have him work with Ann. I think Mike Rice does a pretty good job but he is not as good as Ann.

that is my opinion and I have had it for years
wow...not as good as Ann? I'll take Mike Rice's knowledge of basketball and his humor over Ann's any day of the week. And thats not a knock on Ann.

I like him. I was also sick of Schonz near the end. He hated the players on the team, and harped on a few things over and over and over. You've got... to make... your freethrows. He'd start rooting for the other team. He'd take a negative tone with the Blazers. A broadcaster is owned by the team -- he should be the ultimate homer. The analyst should be the voice of reason. In this respect, Wheels and Rice or Wheels and Ann are awesome together.

I actually like Mike Rice with Mike Barrett on TV, more than Steve Jones and Mike Barrett.

I have and I agree.
It's really a matter of style. Some like his style, some don't. I follow games on the radio, when I can pick up the signal, and I like the way Wheels communicates the emotion of the game.
I loved Schonz, he's an institution. Wheels is not trying to "replace" him, he's being himself.

Snapper is the best. Apparently, I am not the only one that thinks so since NBC, ESPN and ABC have all hired him too.
Dont put too much stock into ABC, NBC and ESPN hiring Snapper because they also hired Bill Walton who is the most moronic individual i have ever heard.....

ESPN and ABC also have Vitale, who is the most annoying and bias announcer in sports....(He sleeps in his Duke PJ's at night he once admitted....)

ESPN/ABC need to look harder for who they hire because obviously they dont listen to who they hire.....

I prefer announcers from TNT or most college announcers over these schmucks....

I think ESPN/ABC have done a good job of fixing their "bad" hires from the start of the NBA contract. Snapper was a great addition this year, as was Hubie. I do like TNT announcers but could do without MARV.

Walton will always be Walton. And, for what it is worth, many do like him. He is one that you either strongly like or strongly dislike. Not much middle ground with Walton.

Vitale is VERY popular with the college kids, everywhere, not just the Dukies. He found his niche. More power to him.

Wheels does an exceptional job following the ball on the court, better then a lot of other broadcasters in the NBA. I think he even does a better job following the action then Schonley did, believe it or not. Certainly when comparing Wheels to Schonley's final few years with the team.

Also, one of the reasons Wheels seems so excited is a very basic rule of sports casting. If you make it sound exciting, the listener feels it is exciting as well. That's the first thing I teach my Sports-casting students.

I'd much rather hear a play by play guy get too excited then to be too mellow. When guys don't get excited, the broadcast becomes very boring.

I'll bet the main reason you don't think what is happening is so exciting is that you are probably watching the game on TV with the radio on, which the majority of listeners don't do these days (unless it's a national TV broadcast).

And also in Wheels' defense, he only uses his "Boom-shaka-laka" phrase once during a game. Never more then that. That said, I really don't think it's all that annoying. I have no idea why that seems to bother people so much. It's not much different to me then "Riiiiip..... Ciiiiiity!!!" was.

If you guys have heard many of the other NBA play-by-play radio teams, you'd realize Wheels is one of the better in the league. I have listened to them all, and I can tell you Wheels does as good of a job doing play-by-play as any one else in the NBA.

I still miss Schonley. I will always miss Schonley, but Wheels isn't half bad, and I for one like the guy.
My thoughts exactly I love both Wheels and Rice's action on the radio. I often turn down the TV all the way and crank up the duo. Wheels is better then my opinion then the Ducks' Jerry Allen, who never tells you what the score is or how much time is left.
