More Monya
He scored 20 again, this time in 26 minutes against a team from germany - the Skyliners.
26 min, 20 pts, 4-5 from 2pt, 3-5 from 3pt, 3-4 ft, 8 rebounds, 2 asst, 2 steals, 2 to.
I don't think the opponents were all that high caliber, but Monya's really starting to turn it on lately.

Too bad we couldn't get him over here this year, we could REALLY use him...to put it lightly.
Our midget starting backcourt (Damon and Nick) is just killin' us. I don't care how many points they score, they're responsible for nearly every defensive breakdown that we suffer. Far too many points being given up in the backcourt to win consistently, IMO.
Oh well, I can't wait until next season, when Monia finally makes the trip over.

The last game on CSKA's schedule is April 10th...so I guess he could be here with a month or two to play. Hopefully...
I have no idea how long their playoffs last though.
Anybody know?

All the accounts I've heard suggest Monya's much more a SF than a SG. Thus, while his shooting and perhaps general play may be a plus for the team, his potential arrival is unlikely to do much to improve the backcourt, particularly defensively.

Euroleague Final 4 runs from May 6-8. It takes place in Moscow, so Monya doubtless will be booked at least until then.
I'm not sure how long their domestic league will keep CSKA busy.

You have to actually run some plays to get guys decent shots with some time left on the shot clock to take advantage of their talent. I'm excited about Monya as well, but let's be honest - he won't make a difference as long as we have Captain Moron (Cheeks) at the helm.

OK, here is the plan. We have Monya amputate both legs at the knees. Then we have somebody whisper to Cheeks that he is a PG who can't pass but loves to shoot.
Presto! He will get to play 40 minutes a night!

Mo: "Nash, we need an outside shooter!"
Nash: "ok, he's not Ray Allen, but here's Richie Frahm. If you take advantage of him (read: actually play him) his shooting can help"
Mo: "ok, sounds good"
....
Mo: "man, we need outside shooting! Thats why things are so bad. We have no one on the team that can shoot"
Nash: "Um...hey numbskull..try playing the white kid from Battleground instead of running NVE to the ground"

I read that Monya may not be able to come over next season due to the potential lock-out, and then, he'll be eligible for the draft the following season. Any truth to this?
I know the Hawks drafted Sabonis before we did.
Yes, I'm sure this will happen, and Monya will go on to be a star with the Indiana Pacers.

slight correction on my part:
Quote:
|
If the player is already under contract, or signs a contract with a non-NBA team, the team retains the player's draft rights for one year after the player's obligation to the non-NBA team ends. Essentially, the clock stops as long as the player plays pro ball outside the NBA. Players are not included in the team's team salary while the player is under contract with a non-NBA team.
|
Sabonis was considered underage when the Hawks drafted him. Thats why they lost his 'rights".

Sabonis was born in 1964. The Hawks drafted him in 1985. I don't think he was 'underage'
The rules were just different back then. If you didn't sign in that first year, the drafting team lost their rights. 1986 was the first year of the new rules, where a team could basically keep their draft rights indefinitely.

I'm fairly certain it was because he was under 21, and not going to college here.
