Lightbulb We have to trade Theo!

I think that the worst move John Nash has made was to re-sign Theo Ratliff to a 3 year 35mil extension. What was he thinking? 12 mil per year for an undersized center that averages 5 points and 5 rebounds a game and is injury prone. Does he really think 3 blocks a game is worth 12 mil per. Now that we are over the cap, we might lose Przybilla next year cause we have no room to sign him and at 7'1" with the way he has been playing lately he will comand at least 6 mil per. I really think that the most important move for Nash to make is to trade Theo for an expiring contract and maybe a pick. Then we will have the room to sign Przbilla(only 25 years old) next summer and get out of that ugly contract. What do you guys think?

We were never anywhere near being under the cap. Whether or not we signed Theo, we'd still be in the same situation with respect to Joel.

I think that if his contract is so bad, why would ANYONE trade a pick and/or an ending contract for it? Doesn't make sense, does it? Probably why it won't happen.

And where did you get the 3 years for 35 million? Has that info been released yet? I realize it HAS been confirmed as a 3 year deal, but as far as I know, the terms were not disclosed. I wouldn't be shocked if it was considerably less than 35 million for those three years. 3 years at 8 million per is much more likey.

This strikes me as another situation like Przybilla's signing. Everybody was tripping over themselves, fretting like a bunch of old women because his contract was ending after this season...but as it turned out, he was signed for 2 years.

Re: We have to trade Theo!

Actually, next year we are gonna be barely above the cap. If you take Theo's 12 mil away, we would be at least 6-8 mil under.

Sure, if you plan to let NVE, Damon, Reef walk for nothing, sign minimum salary players to replace them, and then take away Theo's contract, then maybe you are somewhere around the cap level.

I've been wrong before, I'll be wrong again, but I don't think that's going to happen (even excluding the Theo part).

Of course, the new CBA might have a substantially different cap (but probably not).

Hoops Hype salaries

HH does not have Theo's salary included for next year.... but if you add it in at say $12 mil we are at nearly $50 mil... which is over the soft cap.

But if you take away NVE salary by a team option cut... it goes back down...

and if you make trades for Damon or Rahim you take salary back... and will be over

and you need to add in a draft pick $2 mil or so...

Theo is guarenteed money, you can not just throw it away. Its there like it or not unless you trade it away at a possible 15% reduction in return

lots of possibilities... we should know more by Friday, what we can do for next year. It may still boil down to NVE, Damon and Rahim

Actually, NVE's salary isn't counted in the HH total, so taking it away still leaves you at $50 mil. If you keep NVE (which seems unthinkable) you are at $62 mil.
