OT: Mickael Pietrus
See his profile
CAREER
39.1 FG%
32.3 3FG%
66.8 FT% (Just what we needed another Darius and Ruben)
$1.7 mil salary
OK, some have talked about this guy. I am pleading deer in the headlights scenario.... I have not followed him.
Why would we want him? His shooting is not that good.
What are his good points and bad points? charecter?
HH says great athlete, outstanding jumping skills, agressive, very good defender

Re: OT: Mickael Pietrus
I agree, even his good points sound like a younger and cheaper version of what we already have plenty of. Especially with what Outlaw could become, we have no use for him. I wouldn't mind getting him, but not as the main piece to a trade, I would want more.

Re: OT: Mickael Pietrus
He's still raw offensively. He's shown flashes of being a very good offensive players, especially as a slasher.
Where he's really excelled has been on defense. He's already an excellent perimeter defender and looks to be a likely shut-down defender.
He's athletic and his upside is a shut-down defender who can score and rebound effectively; i.e. a Ron Artest-type player.

Re: OT: Mickael Pietrus
So a young Trenton Hassell?
Or do you think he'll be more than that?
Maybe we can sign him to an offer sheet someday and hold a press conference...

IMO, he has FAAAAR mor upside than Trenton Hassell. Way more athleticism and someone who I think will develop into a solid offensive player as well, thus matching his defensive effectiveness.

Re: OT: Mickael Pietrus
Sounds interesting... he'd be nice to have but I'm not sure that the Blazers have anything GS wants. Anyone?
Anyway, what about Monia/Monya/Mon%&@#a?
I just popped Nash an email (this is fun) asking him if any of the young Blazers prospects have the potential to play SG.
He said that they think Monia is that guy... so maybe we don't need multiple SG prospects. If you can bring in a proven SG, sure that would be great...

I think he's already better than Hassell. Hassell is overrated as a defender, Pietrus is the real deal.
And, as CanJohno said, he has far more athleticism. I believe he was called "the French Michael Jordan" in France. Obviously, an incredible hyperbole, but it was based on his slashing and finishing ability...Hassell wouldn't be considered the "Michael Jordan" of his own family.
He may never realize that offensive upside...but I think he's got a decent chance of being an all-around talent with great defensive ability.

For sure, and I'd love to get him in a Blazer uni'...IF the price was right. That's why I suggested Outlaw + 2nd Round Pick for Pietrus, or Outlaw and Frahm for Pietrus, earlier this week. But mostly everyone shot the idea down. Honestly, he's the type of player I want for our SG. One whose calling card is defense. The thing is, guys with Pietrus' god given talent can still develop their offensive game, unlike some other less talented individuals. For the most part, his jumper looks pretty good, form-wise anyways. i think the FG% will increse as he sees more consistent playing time in the future. The only thing is, he plays behind J-Rich and Dunleavy, so there haven't been too many minutes to come by. I think it's safe to say that he'd be getting 30+ if he were a Blazer, as we have NO other capable SG. Call Damon what you will, but he ain't no SG! i don't care what Mo Cheeks would have you believe. What's it matter if he can put up 25ppg if he doesn't stop anybody? I think Pietrus could be the kind of guy who gives us 15-18ppg (in a starting role), while limiting the man he's guarding to considerably less than that.
