Kind of a slow day, so I will throw in this little news item:

Zygimantas Sabonis, age 13, was in a Juniors Tourney in Spain this weekend.....wearing number 11, of course.

He's the oldest of the 3 Sabonis boys......not particularly tall for his age. But I have heard that Sabonis wasn't overly tall in his boyhood for his age and then got nearly all that growth in his late teen years. Yowch....growing pains!!!!

According to a gal from Spain who posts on IBN, the local news report covering the tourney majored on the fact that young Sabonis was playing and barely covered anything else about it! They still love Sabonis in Spain.

I wonder what the standard nick for that name is in Lithuania.....or in Spain. Mayte, the gal from Spain, called him Ziggy. Maybe that IS what they call him.

Anyone have some pics of the Sabonis sons? I hope they play NBA ball... Although seeing someone else that has "Sabonis" on their back might be kinda weird, regardless I am excited!

I don't have any recent photos of the boys. I was hoping to find one of Zygimantas from the tourney on my regular Spanish BB sites, but I didn't see one.

Incidentally, I don't think Zygimantas will be a center, but the next youngest one might be. Sabonis doesn't expect either of them to be as tall as he is, though. Tautvydas is only 10 or 11 right now, so Shaq will have already beat a hasty exit into a chubby retirement by then. Actually, Shaq will probably be out before Zygimantas gets to the NBA too!

As I recall, Sabonis says both of his two older boys show signs of talent, but the second oldest shows more willingness to learn and work hard with his team. Zygimantas is more of a show off. LOL....They are just boys! Let them mature a bit and then we will see how they are.
