All Star game blues
Man, I am tired of not seeing a Blazer in the all star game. It's been what, four or five years since the last time? And that was Rasheed Wallace, and even then the effort he put forth was hardly worth getting excited about. We need another all-star bad. I'm sick of not being interested in watching this game.

All Star Weekend- i just don't get it
A lot of this has been discussed, but I just don't get it. With FOUR DIFFERENT CONTESTS on Saturday night as well as the Rookie and All Star games, shouldn't the NBA want to showcase ALL THIRTY TEAMS? Isn't this a publicity event for the league? I understand that not all 30 teams can be represented in the All Star game, but with all those other contests, must we continue watch the Sonics and Suns so heavily featured? And do the Hornets really need TWO players in the dunk contest? Why not put the Kings in the shooting contest? Did we need TWO Suns in the three point contest esp since QRich doesn't even shoot all that well from the three point line? Sure,he won, but where was Peja or Damon? Outlaw or Miles should have been in the dunk contest. Man, it just pisses me off. They would get better ratings if they made sure to include all thirty teams!

I'll agree it basically gave Portland fans no incentive to watch. You guys didn't have a single guy even considered. Frahm hasn't even been shooting that great from 3, so he wasn't even asked for the 3 point shootout.

Re: All Star Weekend- i just don't get it
easy. the league is about sucking up to the teams that are hot now (suns and sonics), the established stars (mcgrady, oneal, kobe, kg, duncan, iverson) and a couple of the "young stars" the NBA will now shove down our throats (Smith and Smith).
I'm not sure why Andersen was asked back.
I guess they don't want to have unknowns showing up their sacred cows, and I guess Andersen doesn't count because he was a nugget last year, and he stood 0 chance of winning.
They need to chance the rules, so next year they don't get 58 tries per dunk..

On the other hand, Damon has been shooting well from 3 pt. land this year (minus the first month+). I'm SIIIIICK of dude wearin' a Blazer uni', but I certainly think that he should've gotten an invite to the shoot-out. Oh well, you know what the say..."politics and bull ****"!

Haaaaaaap...I told you, last night, that I counted AT LEAST 62 tries, which is far worse than your astounding 58 tries. Either way, dude got somewhere between 58 and 62 tries too many...HE SUCKS!

Re: All Star Weekend- i just don't get it
My take on the dunk contest:
Last year, Chris Anderson got robbed. His first round dunks should have gotten more points. The NBA changed the rule this year because Freddie Jones won on missed dunks. That's not a dunk competition. Jrich had the better dunks, but he kept missing them and that's why they changed the rule this year. But Anderson was freaking rediculous taking 101 tries on each attempt. But in seriousness, his first dunk would have been really cool had he made it on his first or second attempt. His second one just sucked. JR smith's first dunk should have been a 50. Outlaw should have been there this year, no doubt.

Re: All Star Weekend- i just don't get it
This was one of the better contests in a long time. The two rookies really impressed me with their leaping ability and creativity. J.R. Smith's first dunk was something I've never seen before which was a big plus, add to that the sheer fluidity and force behind what Josh Smith was throwing down and you have some nice dunks.
Although I really liked the way that Stoudemire incorporated Nash into his dunk, I feel like certain players are too big and bulky for the competition. Guys like Amare and C. Andersen may have some nasty dunks, but they just don't have the same flair that smaller, slender players have. Those two should have been replaced by Travis Outlaw and someone like Jason Richardson or Desmond Mason.

Re: All Star Weekend- i just don't get it
Maybe they should compromise. Keep the missed dunk portion, but subtract a full possible point for every miss after the first miss. The crowd can tolerate a second chance, but not a third. That'll give them incentive to not repeat the same thing over and over.
I think Amare was the only guy this year who actually got a 50 when he missed the first time, and he got it on the second attempt. Josh Smith's 50's were all first attempts. Everybody who repeated didn't score well. So maybe the idea is there in an unwritten sort of way, but at least the players would have the thought of a penalty in their minds.

Yep, but history has always shown winners=lots of all stars. We are amongst the Golden States, the Clippers and the Toronto's of the league.

Re: All Star game blues
I got the All-Star Game blues as well . . . right about the time Vince Carter threw the ball off the backboard to himself and jammed it. Watching him jump to where he was at eye level with the rim made me think of the anonymous scout who said "he's not the same player he was, so what's the point in trading for him?" Does that guy still have a job?
