Sam Smith Speculates:
Now I know I've heard a lot of people say this guy is off his rocker just a tad, in the sense that he writes some wacky articles sometimes (like the one earlier this year where he had us sending D.A. and SAR to Chicago for Antonio Davis, Ben Gordon, and Tyson Chandler!), but I thought it was rather interesting since he discusses each teams situation. He seems to think there are a number solid players that could be moved before the dead-line. The most interesting name on the list, IMO (mainly because of his position and skills, but also because he'll be a RFA this summer; rather than unrestricted), is Joe Johnson.

Miles for Wally? Yes, I would say this guy's off his rocker.

Re: Sam Smith Speculates:
I think you need to re-read that column:

The Bulls aren't trading Curry or Tyson Chandler or Ben Gordon or Luol Deng, but would it be worth a run at Abdur-Rahim and give them a leg up on re-signing him by dangling Antonio Davis and Andres Nocioni? Why not shoot high? The Trail Blazers might go for a sweetener like Nocioni to take Davis for an extra season.
|
That's Antonio Davis and Nocioni for SAR that he's proposing. Apparently he thinks we'll take Davis' salary for another year because we don't have enough small forward prospects on our roster.

Re: Sam Smith Speculates:
I found it interesting that he says Miami is interested in Damon Stoudamire. Unfrotunately they don't really have much I would want. Maybe Dorell Wright.. but who would be the filler? Their big contracts are not expiring.

I haven't realgm'd it, but the other part from Miami would surely be Wesley Person. Miami is trying to create a roster space for Mourning, and Person doesn't want to be there.
[edit- that's way off, maybe Eddie Jones is in there somehow]

I FULLY understood what was said in THIS article. What I was saying in the original post, was that he proposed a SAR + D.A. for Ben Gordon + Tyson Chandler + Antonio Davis trade earlier in the season (I believe it was in December). No B.S., he did. As a matter of fact, let me go Google-it-up real quick and see if I can find it.
LoL!!!! OK, well, I found the article and it turns out that the Chicago Tribune charges a boat load of cash to access archived articles. So, there was a small paragraph provide for a "free preview," that reads:
Quote:
|
Shareef Abdur-Rahim remains the Trail Blazer drawing the most interest from other teams. That's why the Bulls need to move quickly if they are to avoid two additional years--and perhaps more--of their current misery. The Bulls need to put together a package quickly to make a run at Abdur-Rahim, a power forward who could complement Eddy Curry and thus provide a reason to keep Curry.
|
Right after this point, on the original article, he went on to say how he thought that maybe offering us Gordon/Chandler/Davis for SAR/DA was a good deal!
"Hey Sammy, when is Pax' gonna let ya take over the GM position? Alright, well as soon as you're hired, give me a call andwe can work out that deal for Shareef, OK?"
Anyways, here's the link to what I did find (which isn't very much):

Sorry for the confusion e_blazer1, hopefully this clears it up a little better!

What about....
Portland trades:
SG Richie Frahm (1.2 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 0.5 apg in 6.1 minutes)
PG Damon Stoudamire (15.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 5.5 apg in 33.1 minutes)
Portland receives:
SG Eddie Jones (12.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.6 apg in 35.7 minutes)
SG Wesley Person (3.9 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 0.7 apg in 12.9 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -0.6 ppg, +1.9 rpg, and -2.7 apg.
TRADE ACCEPTED
Due to Portland and Miami being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Portland and Miami had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Re: Sam Smith Speculates:
Eddie Jones is overpaid and still has a couple years left on his contract I believe.
Rather keep Damon and let him walk honestly. Maybe if they were willing to do Eddie + Dorell + Pick. They have the bad contract, they should have to ante up the goods for us to take it.

Re: Sam Smith Speculates:
Our core is 23 or younger. Why trade for a 30-something overpaid SG would be stupid. If you look at Miami's roster, they really have nobody of interst outside the obvious two. Dorrel Wright and Fillers? That's really the only deal I'd somewhat like from the Heat.

The Blazers would be taking on Jones not because of his ability (although clearly he'd be an upgrade at the 2 spot, even with his atrocious salary) but for the other pieces that the Heat might send along... a future first (say, 3 years from now which might be the post-Shaq era) and/or Wright might be enough to convince Portland to take on Jones.
But probably not.

I was one who wanted to send Rahim to Miami for these 2..... and I would enjoy it even more if it were Damon and we kept Rahim (my fave Blazer)
I know EJ and Wes are getting old... and EJ contract is big. I agree with Ed if we got a prospect back to encourage us to take on EJ's contract.. then I think its palatable. Its kind of like taking on Jalen.
One thing to consider with EJ and Wes.. they are very professional, and EJ can still get it done, and he is pretty good on D.
I would much rather have EJ and Wes tutor Sebastian, Sergai and others than Damon and NVE
