Romain Sato
Just got cut by the Spurs
Strengths: A prolific rebounding guard and tenacious defender with the size and versatility to guard a variety of positions. On the offensive end, combines athleticism with accuracy as a talented long-range jump shooter.

Re: Romain Sato
I'd give 'em a look...absolutely. I LOVED his game in college and I wanted us to draft him in the 2nd round (at the time).
Snatch 'em up, Nash, he's a legit SG!

Re: Romain Sato
According to nba.com, he hasn't played a minute all year. I wonder why he was cut so soon.

Re: Romain Sato
I don't see any harm is signing him, in fact I think it would be a very good move. IMO, this is a low risk, high reward scenario. If, for some reason, he doesn't work out then you can let him loose with minimal monetary loss. However, if he does work out, well, then you have you a shooter which this team has been lacking.
Go for it Nash!

Re: Romain Sato
At this point, the Blazers should be auditioning as many players as possible. They need a shooter, a potential shooter is available, perfect match.

Re: Romain Sato
I'm not so sure about that talk of being a good long-range shooter. If I remember correctly from when I saw him play in college, the guy is really athletic but not really the best shooter, especially from log range. Which is why I didn't want to get him as much. Maybe he's improved...and I imagine that he could. But I believe that he was a college senior and slightly undersized...which is why he didn't go very high.

EXACTLY!
Maybe someone wants to e-mail this info' to Nash? Apparently, dude needs all of the assistant GM'ing he can get. Also, I believe that we have to wait until the teams with records worse than ours (not many, of course) put in their claim for Romain's waivers. I'm not sure when that'll be, but the teams that can nab him before we even have the chance, are:
1. Atlanta -- They're so cheap I don't think they'll claim him.
2. New Orleans -- Cheap, as well as the fact they have J.R. Smith already.
3. Charlotte -- They have enough guys to evaluate right now, doesn't seem like they'd pick him up.
4. Golden State -- LOADED in the backcourt now, with J-Rich, B-Diddy, Pietrus, etc. No reason to take a look at Sato.
5. Utah -- Though I think they have enough backcourt players, they MIGHT want to claim him off of waivers, but I doubt it.
6. New York -- And we all know that New York doesn't want him. He's a useful player, but isn't EXTREMELY over paid...and that's a requirement of being a Knick!
It looks like we'll have the opportunity to claim Romain off of waivers, if Nash decides he wants to. But, then again, he's a true SG (sure he's unproven, but he IS a SG...something we desperately need), and it appears that Mo prefers playin' sub-6' midgets. I know I'd be happy to see this guy get a chance to come in and work with the rest of our young guys.
Also (and I know this from watching way too much hoops, college and pro') Romain Sato is a WAAAAAY better player than Kirk Snyder, the guy that Utah drafted and many fans were bent because we picked Sebastian instead of. He's a better shooter (both perimeter and mid-range), a better defender, and possesses about the same amount of athleticism/explosiveness; he just happens to be a little bit shorter than Snyder.
Of course I don't think this guy is going to be the savior of our season, but I certainly think he'd be a nice pick-up, considering this team is desperate for a damn SG!
Come on, Nash...put down the martini and and make something happen to get this team a SG, even if it is an unproven guy with quite a bit of upside (like Romain).

Re: Romain Sato
He is worth a look...nit the answer to our SG woes...but he was known as a good defensive\rebounding guard...a little on the short side...outside shot suspect...good athleticism...why not pick him up on a 10 day?

Re: Romain Sato
When I watched him play for Xavier, I don't remember him tearing it up from the outside but he wasn't bad.
His final year at Xavier
15.3 PPG
40.4% FG
34.9% 3 PT (75 of 215)
82.9% FT
8.0 RPG
2.27 APG

Re: Romain Sato
Wow, 8 Rebounds a game... that's solid whether he's 6'5" or 6'2"

Re: Romain Sato
So, all of you who are in favor of signing Sato:
Who should the Blazers move to the IR?
I guess I have serious doubts that Sato is better than anyone currently on the roster.
