Is Juan really our starting 2?
Even though all the experts and the local media have projected Dixon to be the starter at the 2, it is hard to believe that Nate would make this decision.
If Nate is planning to run the same type of system here as he did in Seattle, Juan would be effective in the role that Flip Murray or Antonio Daniels played last year: a swing 1-2 player who provides a scoring option off the bench.
I just can't see Nate going with Dixon against the Ray Allen/Kobe/J Rich shooting guards in the West. Martell would be the better option long term, with Spider Smith taking the lead at the 2 until Martell's confidence (and defense) grow to warrant more minutes.
I see Smith as a Cuttino Mobley type of player with better defensive ability. When Smith was signed, Pritchard went on records as saying that Smith could play "significant minutes" in the coming year.

Re: Is Juan really our starting 2?
Dixon will probably be the starting two for the time being. He may lose the position during training camp, or even during the preseason. Who knows, Martell may come out with something to prove. I imagine if MW just starts lighting everyone up, there's a good chance he could crack the starting five quicker than everyone thinks.

You may be right about the shooting guard rotation, but I find it very hard to believe that Bassy will play less than 35 minutes per game.

Re: Is Juan really our starting 2?
I agree that Smith is more likely to start than Dixon, if only for the fact that Dixon is so slight, and if we had him playing alongside Telfair we'd have a backcourt that could be carried off by a stiff breeze. Dixon would work well with Jarrett Jack, who would be the PG on offense, but, because he's large and stocky, could defend the SG. I still think that Webster should go to the "D-league".

We haven't even seen Web play yet really. Give him a chance. Bassy didn't need to go to the D-League. Outlaw probably could have, but he turned out pretty good. The D-League is for projects like Ha and Nedzad.

Re: Is Juan really our starting 2?
Look for Ha in the D League!!! Count the roster spots.
Shooting Guard is going to be Dixon to start the season. Webster is just too young. He needs a little time. There is NO QUESTION he is the man targeted for the position long term. But, game 1 will be Dixon. Smith has a fair chance to unseat him, but I haven't seen him play.
It makes for an exciting training camp for once - players actually have reason to compete.

Re: Is Juan really our starting 2?
monia is more likely to go to the Dleague, if you have listened to what nash has been saying you would know that there will be no one equal to HA's size and their for it wouild be a waste to said him there.

I know this is a crazy idea..but I bet no one is going to the D-league. You don't *have* to send a player if you don't need to/want to.

I read somewhere that a team (Detroit?) was hesitating on sending its players to a D-League team precisely because it's shared by three teams and there's no guarantee the player(s) you send down will get PT, whereas if they're with their NBA team, they at least get to practice with NBA players. It would be interesting to see if this D-League thing really is the damp squib you're suggesting.
Webster does seem to be one player who would handle it well, though - from what we read about him, he doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who'd act all swell-headed. But otherwise, I can see lifetime D-Leaguers seriously hating their over-privileged brethren.
