Re: Blazers going after Eddy Curry? (link here)
http://www.basketballboards.net/foru...d.php?t=191267
This is an earlier thread on the possibility of getting Curry.
This was my instant reaction August 11th:
Quote:
Curry has medical issues.
Curry and his agent wanted the MAX!!!! from Chicago.
You know how well having an unbalanced roster has worked for the Blazers in recent years, Curry and Zach will be more of the same IMO. It has got fiasco written all over it.
You know how well Zach and SAR worked out on the same team? And SAR is to some extent a trooper and a quiet guy and has more of an all-around game. Curry will be lost without offensive plays run for him. A Zach/Curry marriage would not last.
Curry would not be a fan favorite in Portland IMO. He does not hustle. He has whined.
He is not a good match for us. Just because he is a "talent" does not mean we want him.
Jeesh, this team didn't pony up enough to nab Vince freakin Carter who has fewer issues than Curry, was on a shorter contract, and has several times the talent of Curry. They didn't go after Baron Davis. Why would/shouild the team pass on those just to lunge for a baggage laden Curry who doesn't solve a (current) roster problem?

Maybe he won't sign for that, but...

You're correct - he can make up to 120% of last year's salary and not become BYC. I'm assuming he won't take less than that.
However, 120% of what he made last year is just under $4.7 million.
And, no, I don't think he'll sign for that....

We discussed Curry a few weeks ago also here:
http://www.basketballboards.net/foru...ighlight=Curry
Most saw price too high for return value.
If price was cheap (didn't cost us Telfair, Webster, Miles, Outlaw, Przybilla, Randolph, Monia, Khryapa, Jack) I say do it.

Re: Blazers going after Eddy Curry? (link here)
Curry will take 6 years and whatever is given to him...2 reasons. Yesterday was the deadline to accept the qualifying offer. Chicago won't give him long term and chances are he won't want to stay in Chicago, he IMO will be dealt by the end of the week, where though is the biggest question.
So there are 3 options, Either he signs for 120% of last year, or... If he goes over that point there simply needs to be enough filler on each end to absorb the difference. So a deal like Eddy and Eddie for Miles, Ruben and a pick might be able to get er done....But do we give up too much? And the last option is a 3 team deal with a team under the cap.
BTW I had actually asked Nash, via Email, about Curry on Friday. He basically said they had interest, but his heart condition is a concern and that they likely lacked the means to get and acceptable deal for both sides hammered out.
As far as Curry being interested in Portland he could look at Portland as a team that really fits his timeline as far as age and also the overall talent that is up and coming. I think this is a deal that if Portland could get Eddy within reason, then with the looming Joel scenario next summer you get this kid and get him now.

Re: Blazers going after Eddy Curry? (link here)
If there's a way that we could end up with an expiring contract and Eddy Curry while getting rid of a few larger contracts, I'd be all for it then. Persoanally, I'd love to see us retain Joel Przybilla so taking on a guy who wants more than he's worth just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

That would be a dirt cheap bargain...If his heart is healthy.
