Telfairs A Daddy Now
Quote:

The Blazers were missing starter Sebastian Telfair. The second-year point guard stayed back in the Portland area, where doctors were inducing labor with his girlfriend, the mother of Telfair's first child.

I congratulate Telfair on being a father. I hope he becomes more of a mature basketball player because of this. Imagine he was just out of high school two years ago, now he is a father, a millionaire and a starting NBA PG, I hope he can handle all this pressure.

Was the baby a boy or a girl? I hope it was a boy and already has a basketball in his hands.
Congrats to Bassy!

Re: Telfairs A Daddy Now
Please, let's not make this a political/racial thread. A new child has been born into his life. It's a beautiful thing. Let's not sink so far this time, k?

Re: Telfairs A Daddy Now
I beg to differ. Basketball aside, any 19 year old kid who gets the girlfriend he has had since he was 14 (!) pregnant, and then has a baby has made a HUGE mistake. They shouldn't get married first of all - do you know anyone married while they wer TEENAGERS who remain married? The statistics are abysmal. They are too young to be married, and too young to be in a relationship for 5 years, and too young to have a baby.
I think it is horrible. I am not saying they should have had an abortion, I can't speak for others. What I am saying is that he should have been more careful, and the kid is going to grow up with a dad who is on the road and who is FAR too young to be a parent.

That is not necessarily true. I have three children, the first born, a son born while I was a young twnety and he now a sucessfull bisness man and I have two suseqquent daughters who have a combination of 9 grrandchildren most of whom are strating to marry and are well adjusted adults.
It does have to do with having a desire to be a good parent and train and love them a whole bunch. I hope this is Bassy's desire.
It is good for them to marry though in my opinion.

Re: Telfairs A Daddy Now
Good for Telfair. I had no idea he was going to be a dad until he missed that last game.
I wonder if that's what has been effecting his game in the preseason. Maybe he's been distracted, which is understandable. I know he's capable of playing much better and I think he will.

Re: Telfairs A Daddy Now
Now that I'm old I think of 19 as young, but when I was 19 I was sure I was mature
Congrats to all. I hope the child is raised in a happy and loving home, regardless of demographics, I trust she (apparently it's a girl) was wanted. If she does not become a WNBA player, I hope she follows the path in life that will make her happy.
And I hope Bassy has a great season.

Re: Telfairs A Daddy Now
Congrats to Bassy! And I hope he marries the mother, and builds a beautiful family.
No, 19 is not too young to get married. You need to be extraordinary to pull it off, but since Telfair is precocious in other ways he may well grow into an excellent father and husband. I wish him well!
