Yeah, the audio archive will be up a while after the conclusion of the chat... and that comment will SURELY be on there. Funny, funny ****, in my opinion. Just kind of caught me off-guard.

So does anyone who is listening to the chat actually know the breaking news, or are we just laughing about someone getting scolded in a chat room?

Patterson gets a 2 game suspension.
Evidently the NBA was pissed at Portland for putting Patterson on the inactive list as punishement. So...the Blazers suspended him.

sure it wasn't the players union being pissed? why would the NBA care? They can just keep him on the inactive list for all year, if they want. You don't HAVE to play a player.
I'm a little confused...We couldn't put a player on the inactive list as "punishment", so now we have to suspend (and therefore, not pay) ruben..and then put him on the inactive list after that point?
really, is there logic here?
Was that the NBA's way of saying "your punishment wasn't enough"?

I'm not sure what's actually correct, but the NBA is who Quick said was upset.
The idea was that they didn't want teams to make guys inactive as punishment. Since it was pretty clear that that's what had happened, they went back and gave him the two game suspension. (Retroactive to the Memphis game by the way, so he's only suspended for tonight.) You're right, there isn't much (good) logic in that. It's not an injured list anymore, we should be able to do whatever we see fit, outside of straight up throwing games to be able to draft Rudy Gay.
Now that he's been punished, I'm sure the Blazers are free to do whatever they want with him.

You know the NBA, they love their rules. I'm not sure, but there's a possibility that the NBA disallows use of the IA for punishment. Maybe it sets a bad precedent or something. If it had been a "coincidence" or something where the Blazers had plausible deniability, I doubt they would have reacted. That they set up causality, that may be where things went bad in the NBA's eyes.

It won't be long before we have conspiracy theories going around that the team knew they couldn't "punish Ruben" with the inactive lst thing..so they waited for the NBA to "deal" punishment to Ruben. Takes the heat off the blazers GM, and proves he's a scum bum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Er, anyways, this leads to a huge inactive list problem. They might be punishing a player, and just not play him. How's that different then putting him on the inactive roster and the team taking a player off the inactive list?
I think the NBA should force the Blazers to take Ha off the inactive list damnit. I mean, he's not even guilty of anything to get that kind of punishment!

Hardly. The Blazers' punishment of Patterson for yelling at his coach is probably extreme even by David Stern's standards (but I'm still all for it).

Suspended, inactive, active, whatever... Patterson isn't going to be seeing any PT in Nate's rotation for quite a while (if ever again).

I thought Patterson orginally ask to be put on the inactive list? Seems like I read it somewhere.
This way he's losing some money, why just put him on the inactive list when he's collecting pay when you can suspend him and cost him money? Who says he'll come off the inactive list after the suspension? They don't have to activate him do they?
