The Oregonian....
needs to call this team out and do it with force! What's wrong with the sports writers in Portland? Are they gutless or are they scared of losing free dinner with Sheed and the boys at their favorite steak house? Come on Portland, everyone knows what the problem is, time for the papers to call this team out. Enough with the sugar sweat journalism being purged daily on the quality hoop fans of Portland. Try this:
"The Blazers Have No Heart And Quit, While Having The Most Expensive Pay Roll In the League For The Second Year In A ROW!"
That's what should be on the top of the sports page there every day until this team shows a little fight. Start giving players pay scales per game with their stats attached. Show Portland what 150K a night buys them! That's right your kids may lose their spring sports but Sheed will have pocket cash to buy a new Hummer every game while scoreing 16 points as a starter with no assits. That's got to sting a little!
Articles should be written about the coach and if he even knows how to create an offense or run one. Doesn't this look like Dunleavys version? Does me, and not as well run! Does Cheeks know how to substitute or is he just making it up as he goes along?
Portland papers and writers, should be demanding better for the fans or maybe Sheed is an honest reflection of the city he plays for. I don't think so, but the sports writers sure don't have any fight themselves. Have some guts and atleast let the city know this play is not going un- noticed!

That's a fine point you make! Why expect more when your comfortable being mediocre? You are the perfect example of why I wrote this! Have a couple hundred third place ribbons in the house do we? Hey? Purdue goes to a bowl game every year doesn't mean they'll ever win a national championship, but at least they get invited right?

Only 7 teams since 1980 have won a title.
Boston, Houston, Philly, Detroit, LA, San Antonio and Chicago.

You know Hap for a guy that doesn't look like he could run the length of a hoop court more than once at full sprint, I don't think you should be telling anybody about sports or how to interpret hustle. Have another beer big boy!
This is a free board and if you don't agree with me fine, but attacking every post I write without any in depth reasoning is lame.
BTW- there are 29 teams in the league four or five of them in the last five years are new ones. What's your point? Why can't the most expensive team with the deepest pockets in the country win a ring? Oh that's right cause fans like you don't expect a championship you're just glad you have a team to root for at all. Hey if the fans don't expect from their team, why should the team produce. Ya see cities like LA, Boston, Houston, San Antonio expect to win from the fans all the way up to the owners. Winning and competing hard is contagious and effort is a must.

what does running the court have a lick to do with anything remotely close to understanding hustle, other than a weight based insult that really is a rather sad attempt at putting me in my "place"? Also, you might want to try again, because I don't drink.
How about you accept that not everyone is so down on the team as you are, and has accepted that things aren't nearly as bad you claim they are?

there you go again acting as tho I attack your every post. Hell, I don't even read most of your posts. Why must you think that everyone has to agree with you and anyone who doesn't is 'attacking' you? Take it down a notch, will yah?
Instead of resorting to a personal insult (which is generally the first sign someone doesn't know how to argue) I'll just leave you with these words of wisdom.
Don't put a pickle on my burger, because it reminds me of my girl.

Hap, I could give a rip if you read my posts or not, but you sure comment like a smart arssss on alot of them. I don't do that to any of your threads. Every time I log on you're telling someone to stop whinning or using some sort of smart arss context with a poster. You bring this on yourself, don't cry when people fight back.

I wasn't aware I was crying. I can't help it that you leave yourself wide open to criticism over and over and over...and I can't help it that no one else has the tucsons to call you on it..oh wait, I'm not the only one..
It's like hearing someone complain about how horrible the team is, but yet when the team is playing good, they're no where to be seen, and not posting.
You could always ignore me if you don't like me constantly ripping your posts apart. Infact, I invite you to ignore me so I won't have to read your responses.

I've posted on these boards win or lose for years. People who have been on these boards for a while know that.
BTW- why do you keep saying "someone" and they say you're "ripping my posts apart?" Which is it? Is it "someone" or me? If it's me than you are infact looking to attack my posts which makes you a liar yet again tonight. Where did you say you learned to debate?
I've got no more time for you JR!

Wow. Terrible I've generally found myself in agreement with you in your posts. We're both inclined to clean house, etc. That said, I think a case could be made that the Oregonian already does call this team out on a fairly regular basis. If they did much more than they're doing now they might well lose access to the players and it could turn into an ugly mess.... not unlike what's happened with the rest of this thread. I'm stunned that anyone on this board would equate physical appearance with an understanding of a game, particularly in so rude a fashion. What if I were in a wheelchair? Would I, therefore, not be able to comment on anything regarding the Blazers? Or what if instead of being 6'5" I were 5'8"... then I could comment all I want on Damon but no one else on the team?
It seems to me that we're all suppose to be on the same side here, albeit with different perspectives. That's part of what makes a board like this fun. Threads that fall to name calling ruin that, at least for me.

this means: It's an old act when someone (anyone, and even though I know you want this to be about you, there are people than just you who fit this criteria...and there is more than just bbb.net where people can post) doesn't stay consistent, or constantly complains about the team even if they're doing good.

If you can't understand what I'm saying by this, than it's not my problem. If it's such a big deal to you, that I 'constantly' rip your posts apart, or am a smart aleck, just ignore me.
You aren't one of those people who doesn't understand why people answer posts bit by bit are you?

I just want to step in an remind you all that personal attacks are not going to fly around here. I am not going to go back and edit the previous posts since everyone had a chance to defend themselves. Keep in mind, everyone has a right to express their opinions - popular or not.
Let's just try to debate the issues at hand without getting personal. I know it is hard, heck, I had to edit myself over the weekend.

RipCityJB-
I think folks in Portland have become jaded. They haven't experienced not making it to the playoffs in 20 years. I was in Houston for the two championships and times were great!!! A couple of years later, they didn't even make the playoffs. It was tough to watch the Rockets NOT make the playoffs. It wasn't that long ago that the Lakers didn't make the playoffs. And, what if you were a Bulls fan - spoiled by 6 championships and look at what they have now! Sometimes perspective is necessary. When was the last time the Blazers had a losing season?
That said, it is a shame that the largest payroll in the league isn't winning championships. I think it is a experiment gone bad. In Portland, you have an owner willing to risk loads of money to win it all. In this case, I believe the lesson learned is money cannot buy everything, ie - a championship, unless they prove me wrong this season. It cannot buy the desire to win, hustle, to give 100% all the time, heck, it can't even buy good citizens. What the Blazers haven't found is the right mix of money, chemistry and leadership - but it certainly isn't from lack of trying.
Someone prove me wrong on this - who on the current roster has had a BIG season after signing one of the huge contracts? Don't we typically see stronger performances in contract years? After the contract is signed - what is their motivation? It should come from within...
OK, jumping off the soap box here. Thoughts?

Anyway, back on the point of the topic, what makes anyone really believe the Oregonian has any influence whatsoever in the Blazers organization?
From what I've seen, guys like Jaynes and Quick have slammed the Blazers for years over character problems. How else would we know so much about all those skeletons in their closets? Yet the Blazers continue to acquire on talent over character.
Also, if the Blazers actually DID acquire character over talent, we wouldn't have Patterson (domestic violence), Randolph (petty theft, I think), Woods (Pot), Wallace (Name it), Stoudamire (pot), Sabonis (wife had DUI's, famous "names making millions" comment), Bonzi (gum in the stands, SI article) or Pippen (famous last second play).
Sounds pretty nice until you realize we'd probably be fielding a team something the equivelant of:
PG: Rick Brunson
SG: Derek Anderson
SF: Steve Smith
PF: Dale Davis
C: Chris Dudley
Wouldn't that be a blast? All nice, likeable fellas that'd make a title contender for sure!
Oh, wait, but you're saying Minnesota is just dying to trade one of the three best players in the league/all character guy for Rasheed and Bonzi, right? Go over to the T-Wolves board and ask the fans there if that's a smart move for them. I'll check later this afternoon for the hundreds of fans who think this is a good idea.
