Chicago writers once said that MJ's game was all about slashing and dunking and he'd never last past three years in what his body would take in punishment, that and he had no outside game! Guess all those three's he hit over his career while looking into the camera was for them!

Personally I don't buy for a minute that the media stirs the pot for the players. I think most pro athletes tune out whats being writen. These are men not high school punks who'll respond to being belittled by anyone. Change and improvement comes from the inside not from know-it-alls with a pen and a deadline. Remind me again how many titles the Knicks have won the last couple decades??? If anything, the added pressure to succeed (right now bleep it!) has led to their GM(s) panicing over their job security and overpaying for some very mediocre FA talent. Both the Celts and the Knicks have much worse roster/bad contract problems then the Blazers IMO.
Basicly, I don't think our own private Vescey is whats keeping Portland from multi-titles. Also as a fan, I hate reading that style of rumorama/hot headed hype. It's just white noise to me.

"these are men not high school punks" have you checked the draft lately Stomp? Suprisingly the high school punks play harder and with more heart than the vet punks that command such large salaries.
Kobe
KG
Tmac
J Oneal
Lebron James
Vs
Carter
Sheed
Dale
Pip
Shaq
I'll take the high school kids that can be taught any day!

T- way to stretch out in an attempt to make a point... so if the Knicks would just wise up to your insight and draft a high schooler they'd be championship bound??? All that publicly belittling grown men making millions (college experience or not) by local press would get you is less of their attention and respect. I think you are way off when you think that any pro athletes put much stock into the opinions of local writers. Impressing their coach's and teammates is much higher on their list I'm sure. My own little interaction with the press over the years has shown me how unimportant facts and logic are compared to hyping the angles on a story. Writers hope to create a story that gets people talking and sells some papers.
Bottom line for me is talent and good chemistry are much more important in helping teams win then how often the Dwight Jaynes' of the world call everyone out.

Stomp, I totally agree with you on that point but where we differ is "I DON'T" see our players such as Sheed, Bonzi, DD, and even Pip looking to impress our coach and their peers. Do you? Many think Pip is the coach. How many discipline actions have we seen this year and off court antics that have taken away from the team having great chemistry? I would go as far to say that our starting five could give a rip about impressing the coach, the owners, the fans, or the city they play for. How else can you explain Sheed and Bonzi? Didn't Bonzi just get a brand new contract for the team he says he wants to retire with? Does it show with his effort on a consistent basis? If the owners and the coach and the fans can't get these guys playing hard EVERY NIGHT especially NOW with the play offs so near, than a last ditch of frustration for me is having the media call them out on a regular basis!

Yeah, Pip is a vet punk. He displayed no heart in winning all those championships, establishing himself as one of the best players of all-time. Of course, he's also really lazy, as shown by the fact that he's one of the most committed players in keeping his body in perfect shape, off-season regimines, playing all over the court on defense and legendary for putting his body on the line drawing charges.
I guess it's his lack of leadership that's at question here, because Phil Jackson only said that Pippen was as much a leader, or possibly more of one, than Jordan and he's relied upon by Cheeks to be an assistant coach on the floor.
What a punk. What lack of heart. If Pippen had had Jermaine O'Neal's legendary heart and effort, maybe he'd have had a Hall of Fame career instead of being the potentially good wash-out his career turned out as.

Minstrel Pip was only used in that example to keep the teams some what fair. No need for war paint, I should have used Reggie Miller, my fault!

if Pippen had half of Jermaines legendary heart and effort, he'd have 1/10th the heart and effort he already has.

Keeping the teams fairer? Nice...I did not expect that response. I misunderstood you, then, I thought you were contrasting a list of high-schoolers with heart and and desire against a list of from-college veterans who didn't.

Weren't you so frustrated earlier this year that you very publicly announced you were done and weren't going to post or even follow the team anymore this year? Maybe that was just on the other board... anyway we do see things very differently. You only see the ship as sinking, I expect a little water on board as part of the deal. You want 100% every night, I feel its a marathon season, and they are positioned well. Hopefully PIP and the core group will all be healthy come the playoffs, because everyone knows (including them) that they can play at a very high level.
my glass is more then halfway full.

That's wrong, I see a great ship that could win it all, but has no great skipper and a deck full of "at times" lazy, lazy, sailors! You seem to be comfortable Stomp with holes in your boat cause they have always been there, so why change? The difference is in attitude I guess, and what you want as an end goal. Status Quo only works if you find comfort in being average. The day you stop finding something you can improve on yourself or around you, is the day you stop growing. The best people in every field in life know that.

So do you really think all your calls for more nasty articles from the papers and turning over the team as the playoffs approach (and no trades are allowed) has anything to do with the ball going through the hoop today? We are not them, and I'm not deluded into thinking that my opinion, positive or not, has anything to do with actual results. I don't know who practices hard, who's a leader, who's a jerk, or what injuries are effecting the team. IMO, what makes an NBA team click is very much removed from my reality. I'm just a fan looking down from the cheap seats who hopes my fav team wins. Actually check that, this week I'll be cheering them on courtside vs. Golden State.
