OT: Gerald Green in D-League.
I just read over on hoopshype that Gerald Green went to the D-League. Another player who just came up from the D league, gave it huge accolades for improving his game. Perhaps is it time Portland sent a player or 2 up so they can get playing time?
The other thing: I know there aren't a lot of big guys in the D-League, but maybe if a few teams put some big guys who need developing in, that wouldn't be the case anymore. You have to start somewhere. NBA teams ought to be thinking about working together to develope more talent, and if that means multiple teams putting their heads together and coordinating a mass input of untalented big men into the NBDL, then so be it. Lets get the talent ball rolling. There should easily be enough near 7' players that need developement that each NBDL team have a center.
Also of note: I noticed that although Fizer is in the D-League, he is in his 5th year. I could have swore your not allowed in after certain veteran time lines are met (Like 2 years in the league or something like that.) So I wonder if there are some exceptions?

The only thing I can think of is that maybe you can volunteer to go down there after 2 years.

Yea maybe. Or maybe if a team doesn't own your rights you can go if the NBA will accept you.
I just think that the current roster limit of 15 players is way more then you need for your team, and that the Blazers need to wake up and start leveraging tools available to develope some of the younger talent. They could easily put 3 guys in the D league and still have 12 on the roster.

I had Gerald Green ahead of Martell Webster on my draft board. They are doing he right thing with Green, let him get playing time to develop. Gerald Green will have a better NBA career than Martell Webster.

Bit early to make that presumption, don't you think?

Green must be one of those "emerging young players" that mixum wishes were on the Blazers....

The dude hasn't even been able to get into an NBA game yet. How are we to judge?

Teams are allowed to send down players only in their first two years....Fizer wasn't sent down by an NBA team, he is a free agent and can be signed by any NBA team.

You'd think that Pierce and Davis actually have something to do with it...

Re: OT: Gerald Green in D-League.
No see this proves that we made the wrong pick of martel, green will now start every game in the D-league while Martel only plays a spotty 10-15 minutes a night. Green will recieve much needed practice against NBA wanabees and he will emerge as the D-Leagues All star averaging 18 points in a league where the teams average like 60 points a game. Then he will be called up to the NBA and not be able to do anything. but alteast he will be a D-League star. WITH LOTS OF POTENTIAL!

He's predicting, rather than presuming. And while I don't think it's too early to predict one way or the other, I am happy that we have Webster, rather than Green.
Of course, I'd prefer Paul or Deron Williams, but oh, well.
One thing I don't understand is why the Blazers haven't sent down Monia. He is almost always inactive and even when he's in uniform he's not sniffing playing time. He's WAY down the depth chart, and it doesn't appear that his practicing with the team has done him any good (he's gone from a starter to his current non-role).
I'm not sure that sending down Monia would help him, but it doesn't seem like it could hurt a heck of a lot.

The Blazers have said it's because he has a poor grasp of English. They don't want to send him somewhere new with nobody around to help him make the cultural/language transition.

Ugh. . . .
I have no idea how you could possibly come to that conclusion....
If you are going to be a blazer fan you need to stop coming to fast decisions based on a few hundred minutes.....If your going to enjoy your time and continue to follow the team you gotta embrace the youth movement.... or at least give it a season. Otherwise you need to jump off the band wagon.
Or wait. Do we have a bandwagon?
Oh well I'll build one... I just need some wood and nails.... anyone with me?
