The more mods, the merrier.....

I'd hate to see OT threads limited to non-war subjects.

However, I can see how it would be difficult and possibly distasteful for mods expecting to be patrolling a basketball board suddenly to be faced with volatile threads about war.

Would it be possible to have a designated OT mod? This could be either a new mod altogether who is interested in these things and willing to watch the threads or one of the existing mods.

Just a suggestion....FWIW.

i always considered off topic to mean an aside to a basketball issue. An AND BY THE WAY to what you were posting...it may get a some responses, but isn't a topic unto itself. Just my opinion. This Blazer forum is great.

Hey people, are we playing this game or not?

Either way works for me. Should have finished the job 12 years ago when we were all there last time!

So, Did We Reach A Decision?

As I re-read this thread it occurs to me that this should the moderators' call. No vote by the users, IMO. Even if the mods are 'only' enforcing community standards, they would be reading something they may have no interest in...or something that they flat out don't want to read about. Not to mention that it is likely to get ugly in those threads at times.

(I say 'only' with all due respect, mods. What you folks do is truely appreciated.)

Go Blazers

Quite frankly, I don't want to read everyone's opinion about the war - but as a moderator, reading threads is part of the commitment.

I just wanted to clarify that this means nothing more than..well...how could anyone not be influenced by their own opinions? I would think moderating a topic like the war in Iraq would be very difficult. Moderating is subjective. Let's stick to basketball-the war between LA and PDX is bad enough isn't it?

"Good grief" BO-that is exactly what you will be doing. It is quite clear that this topic is far too much for a simple basketball forum. Even questioning whether it should be here at all has reduced the mods to bad behavior.

Bad behavior? My saying "good grief"?

It is quite clear to me that YOU think we (moderators) are unable to handle this topic because we are "simple basketball forum" moderators. Not wanting to handle it and it being far too much for us to handle - are very different things.

I don't want to handle it but I will do so, if necessary.

"is far too much for a simple basketball forum"

That is what I said-I made no reference to the mods. If you will read what I have said I have merely said that this topic is clearly too emotional for a basketball forum and that mods are not immune from that emotion-obviously.

I didn't come here to argue or be attacked for my OPINIONS. Schilly asked a question and I offered my thoughts. You are taking my words far too personally and that tells me that there is def a problem here. You guys can make your own decisions. This is ridiculous-it's just a basketball forum! I'm off this thread.

Wow, I didn't attack your opinion. You said I had "bad behavior" because I said good grief, you think that is not an attack?

I would read through this again and figure out who is attacking - especially since neither of us want war threads here.

I belive this thread itself is a perfect example as why war related threads can be difficult.

The topic of war is not a simple "this team is better than that team, but I still respect your opinion" type of issue. The topics at hand are human life related, and due to this emotions run high.

I have a solution:

Let's just try to keep the war related threads to a minimum and of those let's try to keep extreme political or religous views out of it. Let's put it this way we have a tight group here, and I for one would hate to see the integrity of that bond be jeopordized, especially at a time when we need to stick together (the Blazers are in deep trouble!).
