Przybilla: "Money’s Not Everything....."
Nice little article from the PDX Tribune
Quote:
Job sharing is rarely an easy proposition in the NBA. Ego, money and the quest for fame generally get in the way.
Not so with Trail Blazer centers Joel Przybilla and Theo Ratliff, who have shown it is possible to split time at a position and not be at war with each other — or the coach.
“We make a great one-two punch,” says Ratliff, 32, who comes off the bench after having been a starter most of his 11-year career.
“We both know what we have to do for the team,” says Przybilla, 26, a six-year veteran who had a breakout second half of last season while Ratliff was on the mend from a pair of injured shoulders. “And both of us are doing it pretty well.”........
Przybilla is in a contract year and becomes a free agent in June. The maximum Portland can offer is about $37 million over six years, and, Nash says, “We’re willing to do whatever it takes to get him signed.”
Other teams may offer more, but Przybilla says he’ll listen to the Blazers first.
“Portland’s my first choice,” he says. “But I try not to think about the contract. The money’s going to be there no matter what. Teams know what I can do. This team knows what I can do.
“Money’s not everything, anyway. I’m set (financially) no matter what. I could walk away from this game tomorrow and be fine. When the time comes, I’ll sit down with my wife and see where we’re at, where this organization is going and whether I fit in.”

Most players that played in Portland loves the city. Has it made a differance in the past?

If he ends up signing with us for less money, I will eternally respect that man.

Ditto on that. I've loved Pryz for a while now, but if he purposely picks portland over a contract that pays him much more elsewhere I'll be singing his praises for a long time!

I believe that Brian Grant signed for less in Portland, than he would've gotten from the Kings (in his first contract with Portland).

If Pash Natterson finds a way to give Joel every penny he is worth, as it should be, without hurting the team in the long run, I'll respect them.

I thought we could only sign him for five years? Or one year, if he trusts he won't get injured and that we'll give him the big payday the following year?

Yes she does, his best friend from Minnesota who lives with him here now loves it here too.....He was telling me last game that they were excited that after practice on Thursday that him and Joel are going up to Mt. Hood Meadows to do some snowboarding....excited about the new snowfall....
sounds like Joel likes Portland a lot....
BTW ( its got to be funny looking to see a 7'1" guy on a snowboard and I wonder if that is in accordance with his contract?)...

Or it means he'll keep his mind open to sign in Minnesota for less money. He's made statements about loving to play with KG, and I'm sure he'd like to have his parents at his games 41 nights out of the year.

Probably not. In a world where Steve Nash gets crap for shooting some hoops with the locals in New York and gets more crap for playing semi-pro soccer during the off-season, Joel's probably going to hear all kinds of misery for risking his health on a snowboard.
