Re: Darko Milicic
it's not if nash is interested, but if dumars is. with cato they get a defensive minded big man with an expiring contract. key word expiring. they're clearing up capspace to resign ben wallace. essentially they're giving away darko for more years of big ben. portland doesnt have anything to offer in terms of cap room. no dice on darko to portland.

I didn't look at it from that stand point. In which case it would have to be something more like: Ruben Patterson, Charles Smith & a first round pick and I am not sure if that would be enough cap room to help them resign Wallace. If only Patterson would agree to walk after the year is up, but who is going to give up on free money? I sure wouldn't.

Would you as a Blazer fan do such a trade? Darko Milicic has been labeled by many as a bust, but he really hasn't seen the floor in Detroit and might just be the next Jermaine O'Neal. Darko Milicic in my opinion would be worth lossing Travis Outlaw, but what about you?
Tell me what you think.....

If I were Blazers management, I'd do it. Travis Outlaw is as unknown a quality as Darko, but I don't think his potential high end is as good as Darko's. Dale Davis is a nothing, really, but Portland loses his contract after a year...and also loses Reuben's old-fashioned Blazers malcontent and iffy honor. Then I set Coach McMillan to work on Darko in a way Larry Brown and Flip Saunders wouldn't bother with when they had him. Nate's a teacher, and whatever's (probably) there comes out. Yeah, if I were Portland management, I'd do that deal.
As for whether Detroit would okay it...I don't know that Reuben Patterson's enough to make them go for it. (To a team like the Pistons, Outlaw's just trade fodder; they wouldn't think of him as anything else.) Reuben's good stuff, sure, but Detroit is full of good stuff....good stuff without his history and tendency to go weird for no discernable reason. I don't think they'd do it.

Re: Darko Milicic
Darko isn't worth a 4 for 1 trade, you only do that type of trade for a star.
He would be worth a 2 for 1 or player and draft pick for 1.
I would be interested in doing a trade for him, because I think with minutes he could become a very productive player. Star? Probably not. But not everybody on your team needs to be a star.

Re: Darko Milicic
Okay I emailed John Nash early this morning and he is either an early riser or is back East. Anyways here is his reponse, which is short, vauge and you could read alot into it either way.

Milicic is an interesting situation. The trade that you propose would work although I don't know what the reaction of Detroit would be. When Milicic played in the summer league he was disappointing.

5:10 in the a.m. on the reponse? WOW

Re: Darko Milicic
Darko is not a mirror image of the Jermaine O'Neal situation.
In limited minutes Jermaine showed an ability to play.
In limited minutes Darko has humiliated and embarrassed himself.
Those who say Darko has not had a chance to play are wrong. He has been given chance after chance after chance. And every time he has been so bad, that he gets the hook.
He flat out stinks.
He may someday learn enough to be a productive player, but it is not too early to label him a bust as the no #2 pick. He will never live up to that pick. He will never be a good player, IMO.
Thus, I would trade Ruben for him, only because we don't want Ruben and he doesn't want to be here.
If we traded for Darko, I wouldn't be surprised if he found it just as hard, if not harder, to fight for minutes on our team.
In Detroit he has to beat out Dale Davis as the 4th big man behind Wallace, Wallace and McDyess. Not too hard. And there are lots of blowout wins for him to get garbage time.
In Portland he has to beat out Khryapa, Miles and Ha all looking for minutes at the 4 and 5 behind Zach, Joel and Theo.
I don't see why people think our team would be a better situation for him.
Darko needs to go to a team like the Hornets that is real small.

Re: Darko Milicic
I think Darko would be a great addition to this team. He has shown moments of amazing athletic ability. His jumper is above average for a big man, and is rumored to have 3 point range. I would first try and deal Monia for Darko, but would reluctantly deal Outlaw. Travis is just too much like Miles, and Darko is a dynamic young big man that has played over 30 minutes just twice in his career.

I like that idea, but I don't think I'd trade Outlaw for him. I'm so focused on how to get Ruben out of here early to open up minutes for Viktor and Travis that I didn't even think of just offering Monia. If Detroit has truly given up on Darko and there really isn't a spot here for Monia for at least a year or two, if ever, then that could be a good trade for both teams. Considering the makeup of our team a Darko project would make more sense for us right now than a Monia project, IMO. I'd offer Monia plus give them their pick back. Or maybe throw in Sinanovic if they want a future big guy project that won't impact the lineup in the short term.

This Just In!!!!: Nash is actually a machine. After firing Whitsitt, Paul Allen and a think-tank got together and decided to play a "moneyball" routine with the Blazers. They had a very hard time finding a Gm and leader who could play the "moneyball" game consistantly and without error. So Paul Allen's team of computer geniuses create a program that acts as GM. As a smoke screen they hire a man named John Nash to be the human face of the program. He is just a puppet for the machine....

Well I was up around 8:30 a.m. in the morning and I have a 16 month old that is on a time schedule. I was shocked that his response came at such an early time leading me to believe that he might be back East and not in Portland. OR he is just an early morning person.

Re: Darko Milicic
I dont know why anyone would trade Outlaw for Mili. Outlaw has actually shown skill and talent. Right now Outlaw reminds more of Jermaine O’neal then Mili. Mili is getting less PT then Detroits 2005 pick.
