Agreed on part of this. (Ruben=headcase. Don't mess with chemistry.) But Patterson is a MUCH better scorer that either Delfino or Evans.
Per 48 minutes:
Patterson: 24.2 pts
Delfino: 16.7 pts
Evans: 18.4 pts
So, I guess you mean they're better shooters. True...but doesn't Detroit have enough shooting as is? They have Sheed, Hamilton and Billups for outside shooting and almost nobody who's a real post threat.
If scoring is really what they want at that position and they want somebody with post up skills, Patterson is a great choice. Plus, Evans isn't exactly a swingman. I think he's a fairly pure SG. Delfino can play some SF, but neither can defend like Patterson.
Since Patterson isn't signed long term, I don't see why age really matters. Evans is only 3 years younger than Patterson, so he's not going to be developing in the future. Delfino just isn't that good.
I don't neccesarily want Darko either, but I could see a lot of reasons why Detroit would love to have Patterson.
