Re: Steve Blake: The White Terry Porter?

First and foremost, until TP needs someone to carry his jockstrap, there is no reason to mention Steve Blake in the same sentence.

Secondly, WTH does skin color have to do with it?

Hm..somehow I think you meant dunking and not layups. did you mean layups and not dunks?
Layups Hap. I can't remember seeing Porter dunk once. Porter used to attack the basket and get by guys for layups all the time. Blake rarely does.

Re: Steve Blake: The White Terry Porter?

I'd honestly compare him to Dan Dickau.....a fringe NBA player putting up decent numbers for a bad team (as Dan did last year).

I'd say Blake would have to lead his team to a couple of conference championships before he is mentioned in the same breathe with TP.

I see. I agree, Blake isn't much of a layup type player.

I don't remember when it was, but I distinctly remember seeing a highlight of TP dunking in a game recently (must've been onlineor something).

Blake doesn't go to the hole often, and his FT #s reflect that.

Re: Steve Blake: The White Terry Porter?

Hap,

I agree with you that Blake needs to attack the basket more.

What makes it even more frustrating is that Blake is (statistically) the best FT shooter on the team.

When things aren't going well, the top scorers always attack the basket and get fouled to get the needed points, until they get their shooting touch back again.

That's right. Porter had exceptional body control and balance. He wasn't real quick, couldn't jump that well, but he'd lull guys to sleep and get that first step . . . that was all he needed. Once he had you on his hip, you were toast. He could get bumped and still finish and even though he didn't play above the rim, he didn't get his shot blocked that much. He'd lean in and use his body to shield whichever hand he was shooting from. He got a lot of "And ones" that way.
