Talent in place and money to spend? Boy, I'd hate to be a team in that position.

Nobody deserves more credit for where the Seahawks are than Bob Whitsitt.
If Paul is any kind of gentleman he will reward him accordingly and publicly tip his hat to Bob.

If Bob would have stayed on with the Seahawks, there is no way they are in the Superbowl.

as a nons seahawks fan I don't know one way or the other. But why do you make this claim? I thought that the team wasn't on the same page under Bob, and the new "management" made some big changes (including the coach not quitting) that played a bigger role than anything Bob did.

Now I don't have a coat of silk, but I still have the sky
Now I don't have a lady, but there goes a butterfly
Now I don't have a house of stone, but I can see the sea
Now most of all I know that I am happy to be me.
I'm happy to be me.
I'd like to say I made this, but I didn't

The new President of Football Operations, Tim Ruskell, has done more in one year on the job than Whitless ever accomplished with the Seahawks. Under Whitsett's command the front office was in complete disarray. The Seahawks top contract negotiator Mike Reinfeldt resigned after the 2003 season rather than continue to work under Whitsett. Holmgren and Whitsett never got along, and most reports say that had Whitsett not been removed from the front office, Holmgren would have resigned.
Ruskell brought a new attitude to this franchise immediatly, overseeing the removal of players who repeatedly ran afoul of the law (Koren Robinson), openly fought with coaches (Anthony Simmons), and lacked the work ethic (Cedric Woodard) Ruskell wanted on this team. In their place Ruskell brought in players who had reputations as nose to the grind, all-out effort guys, like Chuck Darby, Joe Jurivicious, and Bryce Fisher. Along with their reputations on the field, the players that Ruskell brought in were known for being stand-up, accountable guys off the field. Ruskell has basically accomplished with the Seahawks what owner Paul Allen wants to see done with the Blazers, developing a winning team on the field, while doing it with good 'character' guys.

That's ridiculous.
Who's starting QB for the Seahawks? Who's their starting WR? Their starting RB? Where do they play? Who owns the team?
And who was responsible for making those things happen? The answer is Bob Whitsitt. He helped convince Paul Allen to buy the team. He helped make Seahawks Stadium happen. He brought Mike Holmgren on board, traded for Hasselbeck, drafted Jackson and Alexander.
Were Darby, Jurevicius, and Fisher important? I guess so. But compared to Hasselbeck, Jackson, Alexander and Holmgren they're insignificant.
Anyone who ignores what Whitsitt did to build this team is being irrational or is just ignorant of the role he played.
He wasn't a perfect manager--he wasn't really even a football guy. But he was the single most important guiding force in how the Seahawks are constructed today.
I'm not sure that they would be in the Super Bowl this year if he were still in charge, but I seriously doubt that they would be if he hadn't been in the previous years.

All true yet with all those things in place the team wasn't able to get it done when Whitsitt was around. As noted the Seahawk front office and thus the team was in major disarray during the end of Whitsitt's tenure. That type of dynamic does not make for a winning team.
