Satellite Radio= No more 1080 the Fan
I can't tell you how nice it is to drive to and from work everday and not be forced to listen to Colin Cowherd or those idiots Furness and Big Suck. 7 different channels of sports talk and information. I highly recommend satellite to any sports junkies. I was able to drive home today and listen to non stop NBA talk about Artest/Peja and didn't have to listen to some pointles drivel from those idiots on the Fan. I really suggest all of you berate Furness and Suke to Dennis Peterson and put the pressure to bring some local talent in.

Do you get local sports radio, or is it all national news?

Re: Satellite Radio= No more 1080 the Fan
No local sports talk = worthless to me (from a sports-wise view).
Other than that I really enjoy Sirius for diversity of political viewpoints and music .

It's all national sports. I really don't miss the local sports on the Fan because it is always so negative.

I chose Sirius because they had more sports channels, they have the NFL, NBA, NHL, Pac 10, and I embarrassinly have a fascination with English Soccer and they carry all of their games. They have ESPN Radio, Rivals.Com radio in the morning, simulcast of NBA tv, and the NFL Radio Network that is awesome. They also have more news channels.

Furball, your list of favorite Blazers cracked me up. Those are some pretty obscure names (though I do remember most of them). By the way, it's Shaler "Halimon."

I used to write a column for the PCC newspaper and covered a Blazer Alumni game against a team lead by Vera Katz. Shaler played for the Blazers. The next day when I got on the bus to go to school, Shaler was my Tri Met Driver. Hell of a nice guy. It's funny how so many of the old Blazers continue to live and work in PDX and the new guys can't wait to get out.

A team lead by Vera Katz? That would have been exciting, she really plays above the rim.

whats strange is, you have guys who played as few as 1 season in Portland who stay, Shaler being one. He played in Portland *36* years ago.
I want to say Michael Harper still lives here and he played only 2 seasons (I swear there's someone else who played like not even one full season here and stayed. But that might be Michael Harper I'm thinking of).
I tend to think that a lot of reasons why they stay/stayed was as much an appreciation for the city, as much as it was the need for a occupation. They weren't making big bank back then, so I'd bet that a fair amount of them couldn't necessarily afford to move again, or find a new place to have a career outside of basketball.
