A D-League suggestion
Although last night's game might change things, at the moment Ime Udoka is starting at SG for the Fort Worth Flyers, meaning that minutes for Monia and Webster are reduced. How about calling him up to the Blazers on a couple of ten-day contracts, just to have him sit on the bench? That way, Webster and Monia get more minutes, he gets a little taste of NBA money (and hey, if we're in a blowout, why not give a few minutes to a guy who went to college in Portland), and everybody's happy. He actually played on a Blazers Summer League team once, and didn't he even come to camp?
Just a suggestion...

they don't have a roster spot to do so.

I'm happy to be me.
I'd like to say I made this, but I didn't

Re: A D-League suggestion
Hap might have explained why you can't do it, but I got to say that was a very clever idea.
My question is do players in the D league count as inactive players?

That'd be a pretty mean spirited way to get Webster playing time. How would that go over in the press I wonder? Not good is my guess.
Besides, wouldn't it be better for Martell's psyche if he simply earned more playing time by playing better than Udoka like he did in the last game?

Re: A D-League suggestion
No they do not Darius players are still considered oon the roster. But my thought is could we provide incentive to one of the other teams that use Fort Worth as their farm team to pick him up if they have a free slot?

Re: A D-League suggestion
I believe Ime Udokas rights are owned by the Lakers, and you cannot call up another teams player.

But could we entice LA to call him up?

Re: A D-League suggestion
Udoka's rights are not with the Lakers he is a free agent. That is why he has been playing in other teams traning camps and summer leagues.

As Starbury points out, that's wrong. He's a regular old D-leaguer.

I confess I thought it was a bit ****ty at first. But then I remembered how much more money people get in the NBA, even on 10-day contracts. I bet if it were explained to Udoka, he'd agree to it like a shot. So, change my suggestion to "suggest this to Udoka, and do it if he agrees, knowing that he's unlikely to get PT." The only reason he wouldn't is if he thinks he's more likely to get a "genuine" call-up by staying and playing. But he's got to know that Martell and Monia being around is only going to cut into his PT anyway, and any player who's willing to play in the D-league for around $12K a year has got to believe in himself enough to think he can prove something by just getting a chance to practice with the Blazers.

1. Who gives a flying ****?
2. Does ANYTHING the Blazers do go over well with the press?
3. Does it change anything if it's made clear that this was cleared with Udoka first?
BUT, having said all that...

This kind of renders the whole thing moot. Although if the rumoured trade for Antonio Davis went through, that might clear up a spot...

Re: A D-League suggestion
Another question....would that sort of abuse of the D-League be allowed by David Stern?
I know he got on Nash's case about the team using the Inactive List as a defacto suspension earlier in the year.....though it didn't seem to stop the Pacers from doing pretty much the same thing with Artest.

Re: A D-League suggestion
IMO Martell will probably be getting more minutes soon, especially if they keep playing like last night.

Why is it "abuse"?
