Quick sees things a bit differently

Quote:
Blake, who is regarded as perhaps the best perimeter defender on the Blazers as evidenced by his recent assignments on Philadelphia's Allen Iverson and the Lakers' Kobe Bryant, was the culprit in allowing Miller's three dagger-like drives late in the game
.

Too funny.

As much as I like Blake, his perimeter defense is porous at best. Kobe ate him alive.

that quote did strike me funny too. If he's the best perimeter defender, we're totally screwed.

Re: Quick sees things a bit differently

Perimeter defense and penetration defense are two different things. Guarding a guy who takes jumpers is fairly easy as long as you stay fairly close, while stopping a fast strong player from penetrating the lane is much harder. Andre Miller is one of those guys you need to dare to take the outside jumper and live with it if he makes it, and sag off of him. Instead Portland had Blake trying to stay with him all the way up the court, and Miller had him beat by the time they got past half court most of the time. If you are going to pressure Miller all the way up the court, at least use somebody fast enough to stay with him. Some guards are fast enough for full court pressure, and some are not. Blake is not in that mold.

That doesn't mean he isn't the best on the team. We really have no good perimeter defenders.

Re: Quick sees things a bit differently

Added as reason 2,156 for Quick being a idiot.

Recently I did call the Blake the "Kobe stopper" yet I was making more of a joke about his lucky game against Kobe. I don't think this is the case with Quick. Blake did do a nice job of denying Kobe the ball while being backed up by one of the bigs. Blake was able to overplay Kobe constantly since he knew he would have backup from the big men inside. It was a good strategy by Nate on defending Kobe more then it was Blake's defense.

Re: Quick sees things a bit differently

I find it pretty funny that just a couple days ago there was a thread about Steve Blake being the white Terry Porter or something like that, and one bad game later, a lot of people are taking a step off the Blake wagon. Sure, he screwed up at the end and the Blazers should've won last night, but he's still our most effective PG right now.
Even Sabas, one of my favorite all-time Blazers, also had a tendency to get stripped and/or just lose the ball in the final seconds of a couple games when he was here. It happens.
