well I can't say that I'm surprised, both in that neither have "earned" a spot, but also that they included a 3rd year player instead. I now have officially no interest in watching any of the all star weekend events.

Re: No Blazer Participation in All Star Weekend?
That rookie-sophomore game is like one long streetball game with fancy passes, crossovers, and dunks.
I'm pissed that we're not able to see Telfair do all of his fancy passing with zero defense or consequence. Would have been fun to watch.

Re: No Blazer Participation in All Star Weekend?
When was the last time a Blazer participated in any event in the All Star week? was it Sheed as a reserve in the All Star game?
I think it's a sad statement about the direction of our franchise that the answer doesn't immediately pop into my head.

I think we stand a good chance at being one of the only, if not THE only team not represented by a player in some manner.

Re: No Blazer Participation in All Star Weekend?
We've long been snubbed or screwed in the ASG festivities as a franchise for a while. Its all about us being a small market.
DAMN YOU SKY WALKER!!!!
Even with Drexler in his prime, he would get benched a lot by the AS coach...he did have that one game where he put up like 20 pts though.

Re: No Blazer Participation in All Star Weekend?
Weird they put Ford in as what was pointed out up above...Just because Ford sat out a year injured does not make him a sophomore, this is the NBA, this isn't a college where he can be a redshirt job.

the NBA did the same thing iirc, with Zydrunas. Maybe that was 'rookie team' instead.

Didn't they do that with Collison also? I seem to remember something about it.

Re: No Blazer Participation in All Star Weekend?
I'm actually pretty curious about my question. Was it really sheed 6 years ago?
There must've been SOMEBODY since then.
Btw, I don't buy the small market argument. I can't think of another small market who hasn't had at least one guy in an All-Star event in the past few years.
The simple truth is that we've just had a lot of mediocre and bad players, as is reflected in our record.

Re: No Blazer Participation in All Star Weekend?
Sheed was an all star in 2001.
As far as Portland having mediocre and bad players ... from 1993 to 1999 inclusive there were no Blazers on the All Star team. In those years Portland had a winning record every year, went to the playoff every year, went to the WCF in 1999. In all those years Portland was the ONLY team with a winning record and no all star representation. At times teams with losing records would have 1, sometimes 2 all stars ("stars" who lose?) but Portland, never. Among those who could easily have been considered were Rod Strickland, Rasheed Wallace, Kenny Anderson and others.
Yes, a small market has a lot to do with it. Portland players did not get votes from fans and when it came to being chosen by coaches, well, they were also influenced by who they saw on TV all the time.
