Mike Barrett calls out Spurs/Ginobli
From today's Blog Entry on Blazers.com:

I respect the heck out of his game, but can't stand watching him complain, look to the officials to bail him out, and flop all over the court on every drive to the hoop. He's an elite player and doesn't need to do that. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and he is amazingly squeaky on the court. It's difficult to watch.

Nobody's ever accused MB of being the most impartial play-by-play guy in the league, but I gotta say I agree with him on this one. My favorite quote from Barrett's call last night:
"Ginobli down the lane and gets gently bumped. You'd think he was just shot with a cannon."

Re: Mike Barrett calls out Spurs/Ginobli
I don't know, Manu is in some "good" company. How many free throws did the Lakers get? Everyone played 5 of 8 with them. And remember one of the playoff games vs. Utah, Damon barely brushed Karl Malone, who made 3 of him easily, and Malone went staggering back like he'd just been hit by a bulldozer. And little Damon gets called for the foul. (Not counting Brian Grant fouling Malone's elbow with his face.) Of course, when it comes to floppers, the master was Bill Laimbeer and the disciple was Vlade Divac.
What bugs me is that it works! Shouldn't NBA caliber refs know some basic laws of physics, like a touch from a 5'10" guy can't send a 6'10" guy sprawling?

As an Englishperson, I can tell you that flopping and in fact all-round cheating is a proud Argentine tradition. Google "Hand of God" and Maradona if you don't believe me.

Wow. I guess it takes the Spurs playing the Blazers at home for Mike Barrett to figure this out.
Watch some basketball, mate.

Enouhg of this nonsense! Ginobili receives those calls because the offensive charges into him! Ginobili is one of the best players in the league when it comes to staying in front of his man and establishing position without moving his feet.

I believe it was Depeche Mode who said, "I just can't get enouhg".
Besides, I believe we were talking about offense, not defense. Argentines don't flop on defense, they hack unmercifully.

Okay, when I heard you guys talking about flopping, Divac came to mind. Anyways there is a reason Manu gets those calls, he beats his man off the dribble and is going to the basket, if he gets bumped, it's a foul. If the Blazers wanted to stop him from driving, they should have let him take outside shots.

In that same game, he also later scored what is widely considered to be the greatest goal in World Cup history. Salt in the wound.
